Are you a gym member?
Im thinking, because i have no life, of joining a gym.
But not sure what to expect to pay.
Are any of you gym members and what do you pay?

I go 5x per week so each visit is like £3, and even the council one is more than that. Look at it this way (like I do) if I go on a Fri or Sat like tonight I've saved £60 by not going out on the piss which has paid for it anyway.

i pay £84 a month for David Lloyd(in london) its alot, but i go atleast 5 times a week,so atleast i use my money's worth!!....i've been to many a cheaper gym in the past, but like they say"you pay for what you get!"...although,all i use is the weights...and not the sauna's,swimming pools, sun beds etc....so maybe i could get a cheaper option!

im a member at a bodybuilders gym ( basically a spit and sawdust free weights only) and a member of a posers gym for cardio/swimming/sauna
the biggest dumbell in the posers gym is 38kg......... and in the spit and sawdust is 65kg
bodybuilders gyms also have different machines and its a nice change from going the same place,,,,, i also use ANOTHER gym on mondays in a posh hotel in tower bridge as one of the guys i train with is the manager there, he works later on mondays and theres free fresh fruit and a olympic size pool

think a while back i was paying about £25pm for a kinetica gym down this way, had most weight machines and cardio stuff, wasnt as posh as david lloyds etc but could have a good workout!! used to go 3x a week and used 2 feel alot better for it but as usual missed the odd day then ended up not going for a while and its been a good few years now keep meaning to join another, maybe 1 day!

honestly i couldnt get into cardio at all, just bored me totally and gym music is shite generally, got a ipod and was running, jogging and running again,,,,, then the machine went onto cool down pmsl
senheiser do some green coloured headphones that i use, there designed for running with a stiff frame for behind your neck so you aint constantly putting them fucking shite ipod ones back in every 3rd step

At my golf club in England i payed £20 a month, new type place was ok. In Spain i moved into the next villa to a a ex marine and in Spain he was a personal trainer, after the hello''s etc i'm your neighbour he talked me into it at 100 euros i think may have been more a sesssion. He was busy enough with plenty of other ex pats every day all day so took my local up instead for some right arm therapy. Feel guility now all the time though as have no will power at all.

I dont need to go as I do hard physical work and there no way id even have the energy to go after work.
I went once for morral support as my wife wanted to try it out and shes shy with these sort of things. And I felt like such a tit, there were blokes standing there in front of the mirror lifting weights that i lift aal day long thinking they are superman For me the whole EGO thing was just so cliche it was unreal.
Thing with gym's is they are normally a short term phase, why do you think they commit you to 6 months or a year contract.....cos they know 70% or however many will only do a week or two before they "give up".
If your dedly serious id consider seeing if you can go as a guest on a friends card or try somewhere like your local secondary school, how you will find may rent the school gym out a few nights a week. normally for a few quid, and that way your not tied to anything whilst you see if its really for you.
The biggest problem like I say is disiplin the only reason gyms work for some is because its a reason to go if you have the membership. but again I think you have to be determind in your mind to really feel the benifit.
Other thing you could do is buy a bike, If i have a heavy weekend I try and jump on the bike and do a quick 10 mile circuit just to get the heart pumping to clear the crap. like an oil change sorat of.
Other things you could do is take up dancing, IMHP you will get a much better over all fitness and stamina. and its also a good way to meet new people and socialise. Theres all sorts of dancing groups/classes from classical to this R&B stuff. Especially with all these dancing/reality type programs there is a lot of intrest in this now and i often see classes advertised.
Or if your a bit less unsociable then swimming is one of the best things you can do. If i had to subscribe to anything it would be a membership to a decent swimming pool. Not only can you swim which is soooo go for your cardio and muscular works but also very kind on the joints, compared to say joging on a tread mill. But most half decent ones have a suana and massage style sections so as a woman you can also pamper your self. As i think half the battle with feeling healthy is in the mind!!
Sorry to ramble on at such a silly time on a sunday morn, but I hope Ive maby given you some alternate suggestions and maybey saved you a small fortune in the process.
Or you could come and work for me

LA is a fucking shite gym tbh, the dryer for shorts was always breaking down, would work for a week then be broke for 3 weeks, this went on for a year and us members complained,,,, so and im not fucking kidding with this
THE TOOK THE MACHINE OUT DUE TO COMPLAINTS FROM MEMBERS IT WAS UNRELIABLE,,, now we have NO way to dry out trunks
when i first started then i got a towel FOC and then was cream in dispensers,, now its 1 quid a towel PLUS 1 quid deposit, the cream dispensers have been removed, the spa is constantly being taken out of action in peak times and they now close 30mins earlier and the pool area closes 30mins before too( which is 9pm)
i would leave there but on sundays we do mixed martial arts there, though again they DID try and start charging us to "run a class" there cause we let others join us, we had to compalin to head office about it as we are ment to get free use of the studios if they aint booked for classes
if it wasnt for that then we would have ditched the gym,,, i might still tbh

you can SHARE the equiptment mate, just jump in between sets thats what me and my mate do and it turned into a sort of training club, at one point there was 9 of us training together due to the jump in between sets
it makes going to the gym easier too as when someone dont make it you still can meet up with someone and train with them instead
