you can SHARE the equiptment mate, just jump in between sets thats what me and my mate do and it turned into a sort of training club, at one point there was 9 of us training together due to the jump in between sets
it makes going to the gym easier too as when someone dont make it you still can meet up with someone and train with them instead

I go bannatynes,£80 a month for me and the wife, its a good gym in many ways but I hate it, you pay more to go at peak times but you cannot get on anything if you go before 7pm, totally oversubscribed, I will be finding another spit and sawdust gym as soon as contacts up

just finding my feet
tbh i find there less attitude in a bodybuilders gym, infact theres alot more talking due to the way people do there sets and the amount of times people go in there, hell one bloke brings hes dog with him to the gym and its strolling about the place
if your in a group it helps alot too, as said we basically took over a studio, started with 4 of us now we have 16 doing mixed martial arts on sundays,, we let anyone join in and when i choose to train something different due to injury to my back i still have someone to train with
"posh" gyms or the franchise gyms which is basically what they are tend to be the worst though,

I'm a member of a gym. I pay something like £31.50 per month for full membership and go almost every day. Great range of free weights, weight machines, cardio machines, those new x-bikes, boxing facilities, studio, mats and equipment, sauna etc. Plus a trainer is always on hand to be with you pretty much all the time if ever you want.
I don't like these chain gyms, think they're shite, but not really into the sweatboxes either. This is a just a private, but well laid out, modern, quite posh, fair sized gym, but not way OTT. And that's the kinda place I'd recommend to people

Maria,
i use the David Lloyd gym and it is a bit expensive, but worth it imo.
i'm using the Stockton on Tees DL as i'm working up that way at the moment and they have an offer at DL on at the moment..£15 to use the gym for week.
this offer is on all March and i think its in ALL of the DL gyms, so get down there and try it out, them go to the other gyms and then compare them.
Also, work out which gym is closest to you aswell, cost more to get too the cheaper gym if further away, then the costs adds up in the month, may work out more in the end.
Don't get into a 12 month contract with any gyms too if you are not sure if you will not keep it up etc...

Lee - some good points there honey! I like the dancing idea, i did pole dancing for a while and loved it! The reason ive been thinking about a gym is because i know if im paying for it, ill bloody use it!
Lloyd - i dont think it would honey!
Dave - cheers honey, i saw that advert on their website! The David Lloyd one is actually the one furthest away from me, AND probably the most expensive, but the one nearest to me looks quite pikey!

Ahh the joys of going to Uni - I only pay £30 for a whole year. Top notch facilities that hardly anyone uses, especailly the second gym which is 3 miles away from my house.

............
Maria, i do one class a week at the local lesiure centre for £3.20, which is an hours circuit training, I live next to a park, woods, roman road etc so I run once a week and I use my mountain bike a fair bit........keeping fit isnt about running round in a sweaty room like a hamster in a wheel whilst they try to make the air feel like outside...just go outside.
If you aren't motivated you arent motivated, simple as.
Good luck with it

I've looked into joining a gym before but I know for a fact after a couple of weeks I'd not bother going again.
If it's something you really genuinely want to do then you'll stick with it, rather than feeling it's something you should be doing and ultimately it ends up being a chore and you lose interest.

Going to the gym is something you need to prioritise for or make time for. I'd never have gone unless i found a time where I knew i'd be free each week; I'd had found better things to do with my time. So i make sure I go every Saturday after work, when a) the mrs is at work, b) all my mates are at work and c) its usual raining

if your going to meet posers then one off those big fancy expensive places will do, if your going to use the facilities properly i prefer the cheap back street place with more honest helpful sorts of people in them.

Well my main reason for wanting to go is to tone up. I have additional skin and fat that i just dont want!
Then i guess a secondary reason for wanting to go is to potentially meet new friends, as to be fair i dont have many in Ipswich, they are all miles away.

Maria - Come to gym n trim with me
They do deals on 6 weeks or 3 month memberships to see if it's for you.
6weeks is £50 and 3 months £100. No direct debit or fees etc.. So after the period if you think it's not for you then you can walk away..
if not after that i think they offer the top membership for around £30 per month
I'll also have a guest pass if you fancy having alook They also have a mixed and female only section so which ever one u fancy it is available

Fitness First is a very good gym, very comprehensive. David Lloyd is meant to be the bollocks but incredibly expensive. £37 at my local and it does everything I need.
What do you want to gain or get out of joining a gym because a lot of people do either of the following:
1) Go for the first month or two then give up
2) Have no idea what they want to achieve and waste their time and stop going
3) Join a gym that isn't tailored to their goals. Every gym is slightly different in the sense that they will attract a certain crowd. For example, there is one called The Works not too far from me. Is a totally dominant male gym. Huge 14-15 stone guys huffing and puffing, clanging weights, lifting silly amounts and steroid rampant. I was intimated going there and if I was female I'd never want to step foot in it.
I suppose you can sort of socialize but I don't really do that. Classes are good for socializing. Get to know the gym staff also. I know all of mine. Usually they are a friendly bunch and will help you settle in.

The best place for you maria would be a leisure centre were they have a gym but more importantly classes like circuit training/aerobics/kickboxing/thaiboxing/aqua aerobics ect when you go to classes like this you wont just go in for 5 mins then go home, you will be more inclined to stay, you will give it more effort than you would just going into the gym on the treadmill ect

I've always thought David Lloyd was a rip off personally. My gym is part of a leisure centre as Al mentioned above and all for £37 a month including sauna, swim, gym, classes like spinning, fat burning, kick boxing, boxing, freestyle dancing etc.

The thing is, i dont have any decent leisure centres near me!
The only one is the crown pools, and when i went there a couple of years ago, i walked in and walked straight back out, it was disgusting!
