Default Very dodgy situation.........

A friend of mine sold his 5 series BMW to a lad from Hull. Anyway, he bought it without seeing it as it was the cheapest bar far. He mentioned that he had his M5 nicked so he's been paid out £30k.

He bought the car from ebay a couple of weeks ago, and out of interest we were looking at his ebay account and noticed that he is selling 5 series BMW parts, and it just so happens that almost EVETRYTHING from my mates car is listed on there! All body panals, the engine, running gear, interior, gear box, diffs, suspension THE LOT! Basically everything apart from the bare shell. The parts on ebay are DEFINATLY the parts from my mates car due to a few things that we noticed.

We phoned him posing as someone wanting to buy the shell and he said its not available as he's 'upgrading the car to M5 spec' so obvioulsy needs the shell.

Should we get involved in this or stay out of it??????

Yeah he is, but i think what he's getting at is that it seems a little bit like the M5 wasn't actually stolen. Just hidden.

Even still though, it's not really your problem mate. As long as you get the money for the car. It's him thats commited fraud.

But then it may be completely innocent or i've got the wrong end of the stick

If I'd "lost" an M5, got paid out and then went to buy a non M5 to either rebuild the M5 parts into or swap the M5 I.D over, I wouldn't have said anything about previously owning an M5.

But I'm not him..

It's iffy, but it don't half give you ideas LOL! I'd stay out of it, you or your mate have got nothing to gain, whatever the rights and wrongs of it.

Well i know its not really our business and im not one to stick my nose with what other people get upto. I know it would be hard to prove and there 'may' be a perfectly reasonable (and legal ) explanation for it, but if i was a betting man, i know where my money would be.

Yes my mate has his money so that should be the end of it, but he cant help but feel he's obliged to do something. Imagine when the car is sold on and someone buys it when its got all 'stolen' parts on it and they end up having it taken from them as the parts are technically the insurance companies!?!?!?! Or even worse, if they sell it as a proper M5 and do someone out of thousands of pounds.

I dont know he'll probably end of forgetting about it and not get involved in it but is that the right or wrong thing to do???

Who knows mate, apart from him. If that was the case though, why not just keep the M5??? It was paid out for months ago and was 'missing' for 4 months so very lucky if it was found within 2 weeks of him buying my mates.

More likely he crashed it, reported it as stolen and is now reshelling it into your mates.

It's up to him what he does with his life surely? If he gets in trouble for it then it's his problem, not yours.

If it is an insurance fraud then thats out of order as ultimately we all end up paying higher premiums as result of claims like this.

Tell your mate to ring the police. if they dont want anything to do with it then he has done his deed as a concerned citizen. If more people "cared" ^^^ then less people would commit insurance fraud or whatever other crimes because they would know that people are more vigilant!!

Sometimes you have to give something for the detectives to detect!!

So you say 'no one likes a grass' but would you like the 'grass' that 'grassed' up the person that he saw smashing your car up or nicking your radio?

Back to this 'grass' thing, where do you draw the line on this then? Would you 'grass' on him if you knew he was a peado or a rapist?

Not aimed at you personally, but those comments really annoy me. Its only ever mentioned when its suits them. If the table was turned, they would actually like the grass that grassed.

Dont get me wrong, this is not really my business so its upto my mate if he wants to do something.

I know people who like a grass, the people who don't have stuff stolen or premiums increased because of what here could be illegal activity.
Report your suspicions is up to you I would without a doubt, be better for everyone if another thief is caught, if he's ligit, he won't even know as he won't hear a thing from plod.
All these people who say don't get involved, would you want anyone involved say if your car got nicked.

Peado or rapist I would not only grass, but probably go vigilante on. Same with the stolen car thing.

When someone is making money out of something which doesn't directly affect me, I would turn a blind eye. And before people start banging on about insurance premiums etc...it's too big a picture for me to care about 1 guy trying to make a bit of cash.

So there is a huge difference, and there was no need to bring up rapists since you probably knew what I meant anyway.
