Default ford racing pumas....

ive always liked the look of them, just they are so so underpowered for me to even consider getting one...... Anyone know how easy it is to put a silvertop zetec turbo lump in one.Ive heard the actual floorpan is based on a fiesta.......so chances are it would go in. What gearbox do these have fitted in them??

i am pretty sure they are based on the mk4/5 fiesta floor pan and there are very few of these knocking around with silver top zetecs. the converstion i have seen most, is the 2.0 duratec either n/a or turbo, would be a shame to do it to a FRP, why dont you use a normal puma if you want a puma?

Based on a Fiesta Zetec-S, the engines are identicle besides the fact the Puma is a 1.7 instead of a 1.6. Both use IB5 box's.

Identical apart from the displacement, the inlet and exhaust manifolds, the cams, the head and the variable cam timing on the puma yes.

because you can pic these up for not a lot more than a standard puma. The standard pumas are horrid too. I really like the look of the racing pumas...just far too slow for my liking. How much do puma racing engine and box go for?

Too much

You can easily get a 1.6 or 1.7 zetec se up to 150 bhp for less than the cost of a FRP engine and up to 200bhp with a few quid

You dont want to use a 1.8/2.0 zetec e as it will mess up the handling

You obviously don't "get" what an FRP is best at then if you just want more POWER!

You don't need much power to have fun down the country lanes - it's all about the handling.

What's the most power you could get out of a FRP engine then without going down the turbo route?

mine was dyno'd at 155bhp with around 10k on the clock

don't forget the Ford Racing parts are either difficult to get hold of now or cost a fortune.

plus the work Tickford did, wasn't the best workmanship I've seen, and there getting old now.

Mate had one for 6months, it was nippy enough, but when you hit the back roads it comes into a world of its own. Really loved the way it flew through the country lanes, really top fun. Would get one if I could find a job lol
