Stu,

Concrete is approx Ł100 m3.

So if you did you base 100mm thick it would be 3m3 - Ł300 ish quid. However as it will be a part load (6m3 to a lorry) you may get charged more.

I would make it 6" deep and do it your self. It really is easy. Just don't forget to put a bit of a fall across it to stop standing water if it is outside.

personally for a workshop i would use 3inch concrete depending on what you ground is like it would work out about 3.5 tonnes of concrete inc fibers + sand to blind + membrane and dependant on finish polished of tamped should be looking Ł750max prices vary depending on area condition of site access ect

dont pay anyone to do it ! go get yourself a few scaff boards .
Stand em upright in the area you want it to create a box , nail the edges together to stop the concrete running out and get the driver to fill it for you , all you gotta do is rough level it with a shovel then finish it with a length of wood by tapping it . probably only take you 4 hours start to finish ( you might want to dig out and hardcore or steel the base first if you intend to put cars etc on it tho )

Fuck me Great advice Nail some scaff boards together WTF love to watch them belly and split under load once the concretes in. Also yeah great finish acheived by tapping it with a length of wood

Honestly mate get a quote and get it finished properly i run a concrete squad and i wish it was as easy as its made out above to get a decent finish it needs shuttering pinning tamping screeding then floating

All trhe best any way

Yup i agree Kev, a reinforced 4'' concrete floor is better than 6'' unreinforced imo...especially on well prepared ground.

Im not even going into the spanking by Maria, its too late for those thoughts

Right for a start you are working in metric and imperial please dont do that its like being at work with my Dad!

The Ł100 quoted is for a cubic meter not square meter. To make a cubic meter of concrete you will need approx 2 tonnes of ballast and 10 bags of cement. A 30 square meter base at 100mm thick is 30 x .100 = 3 cubic meters

So now you know that you would need 6 tonnes of ballast and 30 cement as a rough guide,I can mix this by hand and be in the pub by lunch on my own!!

Let me know if you want a price.

when we concreted our first garage, it was a bit of land approx 18 feet by 22 feet and, when it was mixed up etc, we ended up needing 6 yards of concrete as we originally had 4 yards and that wasn't enough

when we did the other bit of concreting, some of it was up to 14 inches deep when we had to get it levelled out and we used another 2 lots of 3 yards to do an 18 x 18 foot section

but yes, if he's after 3metres cubed then you can do it, if you are fit and healthy in about a day mixed and layed from what i've seen without a concrete mixer to help out
