i'm 22 on £6-50 an hour, thats with main dealer with nvq level 2, key skills 2 (i think!) few other random certificates from ford college daventry, and testing class 4 with five years experience in the workshop. & i'm not in london.

first off it really bugs me when people say i'm still an apprentice/unqualified, i did all the shit jobs and going college every week until 6pm, worked hard and got a qualification at the end! just cos it's not a city & guilds doesn't mean it's irrelevent!

Obviously we're all still learning as we all know it's a fast moving trade but i'm not quite an apprentice!

bttt, i think you're getting a good deal tbh. use of workshop with keys is soo usuful.

personally with bonus and overtimes makes it a well paid job for my area with the amount of work i actually do. Other days i think 6.50 is shit when you consider the amount of money i am making for the company at £70/hour labor rate!

a few years ago i wouldn't have got out of bed for £6.50 an hour, but these days, if you have steady work and can make sure you don't fuck up, any job is a good job mate

although £6.50 is probably the bottom end of the scale for london, it may be a decent rate for the outskirts of civilisation

Up here in Aberdeen, the average Mechanic would see £10-12 p/h going by what most of my pals in the trade earn.

JC BMW are offering £17 p/h for a night-shift tester so it sounds like we're pretty well payed up here - but the competition with the Oil Industry has probably inflated wages beyond what they should be.
