Question Towing uninsured car...?

Hi, just wondering if anyone knows if it's legal for me to tow my car back on to my driveway from the garage it's currently sat in.

I'll be driving a fully insured car with the correct towing bar setup at the back (ie caravan/trailor hook up point thingy)

Using a solid metal tow bar not a rope, the missus will be sat in the car being towed with the engine running so she can assist in braking and steer a little.

I'll be putting the reg. plate of the car infront on the towed car and a sign saying "on tow".

Now, since the car being towed is no longer insured and is out of MOT is this legal to do?

I'd like a definite answer if anyone knows as the missus is worried about her licence etc...

Thanks for reading

Why's it not legal as even a provisional license holder can be sat in the car must admit that i've towed a few this way never had a problem but i did use a trailer board and didn't have engine running????

towed one car from near barrow to blackpool like this never got stopped or anything like that either

It's not legal, as it does not count as a trailer, which would be legal, it doesn't count as all four wheels are on the ground.
If you use a towing dolly so that two wheels are off the ground it becomes in law a trailer, so mot etc are not needed.
Then you have the next problem, depending on when you passed your test, as after a certain date there is a I think a 750KG trailer weight limit, prior to this a lot higher.

Only if accompanied by a suitable full licence holder.

And be insured for the person behind the wheel.
And Mot'd or booked in and travelling to or from an Mot.
And Taxed, unless travelling to/from Mot.
And the weight of the car being towed doesn't cause the combination to exceed the Towing car's Gross Train Weight.

Millions of drivers exceed the speed limit daily, only a few get caught.
Just because the others don't get stopped for speeding it doesn't mean speeding is legal.

If the car being towed has all 4 wheels on the road but no tax & test or insurance your still technically using a non roadworthy vehicle on the road despite the fact it had a towrope/bar attached to it, just because you have never been caught or pulled doing it, doesnt mean its legal.

Years ago I got spotted by a copper being towed in a mini with no front end or engine, no doors or glass and I was sitting on a milk crate, oh and the only brakes I has was the handbrake. He was going the other way but he clocled me and stopped me a few days later and said that had he not being rushing to another shout he would have nicked me!

Hmm interesting posts there, nothing unroadworthy about the car but still not worth the risk...

"A" frames and dollies are only legal for local recovery.

The person at the wheel of a towed car whether on a rope or bar is in control of and can alter the course of that car and could also influence the movements of the car towing it.
Because of that the towed driver must be fully qualified and also insured in case the towed car breaks away.

Throw the copy of the Beano away where you read the Police said it was legal for a Provisional driver to in the towed car, it never has been and never will be legal.
