Default The Best Tyre: In Your Opinion?

There's probably been quite a lot of threads on here about tyres, but since the Focus I've just bought is due a set soon, I thought I'd ask your opinions.

So what tyre do you think is best for a road car, taking everything into account - dry grip, wet grip, price/value for money, tread life?

I was going to go for something like Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrics, as I had a set of F1's on my Impreza which were brilliant all round, and lasted ages considering the abuse they got.

All opinions welcome.

I have a wet car (my Jag) and dry cars, Saff and Merk. I personally prefer Falken RT-615s. I run other Falkens on the Jag and they are brilliant too.

toyo 888 and/or dunlop do2j or whatever they call them now! lol

they are ok as a road tyre(dealing with water-wise) been in a couple of cars on the road in rain with them on,
didnt seem to bother them much...

sure Porkie mentioned he used 888s on his 911 as a daily road tire too.

Would have to say Bridgestone Potenza's I had on my Impreza, I never found a better tyre for grip and wear.

Yeah, I really liked the Continental Sport Contacts...and they are the tyres that are meant to be on the Focus I think...but they I quite a soft compound for a road tyre, and I found they wore quickly when I had them on one of my previous cars.

I've got Falken Ziex something or other on my ST170 and found them to be spot on and generally tyres last a lot longer now the wife drives it The fella at the tyre place recommended them or Goodyear Eagle F1's.
Had Conti sports on when i got it found them cracking in the dry but car felt very nervous in the wet, really disappointed as i'd have loved to kept the oem tyres on it.

Quick off topic question - Can I edit the title that appears in general discussion? Made a typo and would like to change it. Have tried advance edit and edited the title, but it still appears the same in GD.

Thats what I have for mine, dual compound (hard in middle softer on edges IIRC) so they last a fair while and when you push them they grip

Pricey though dependant on wheel size, I needed 18 inch tyres and for 245/40/18 they aren't cheap

Tyres are the most important thing on any car though...so I dont mind spending on decent ones.

Cheers for all the input! Keep it coming though.

It's a toss-up between Michelin and Goodyear so far.

I have used Eagle F1 GSD2 and GSD3, on 4 different cars, they have been amazing ly shit on all of them, utter crap, which is annoying as I get them for next to nothing, but won't use them, wouldn't put em on a wheelbarrow to be honest.
Have used Toyo T1S, ace tyre, especiay for the money, then the T1R, very similar, but not as good as S and wore out in less than half the time/miles as S.
I have used Uniroyla Rainsport 1 and 2, awsome tyre, but recently fitted some VREDESTEIN Sportrac 3, have to give these a mighty thumbs up, make the F1 lokk the crap it really is, they are not cheap, but depends how much you want to stray on road, the grip in the wet, with Sportrac 3 is better than the F1 gripped in the dry, just having two fitted on rear of cossie today!!
The tyres I would like to recommend are no longer made, ie Goodyear Eagle VENTURA, Yoki A008 + GX501.

Agree.

Road. Michelin Pilot Sports 2's
Track. Toyo R888's for value. Dunlop DO3's money no object.

Usually yes but there's a problem with it at the moment for some reason. I have made admin aware of it so will be fixed/explained soon I hope.
