KA 1700 16v
Hey, Im new to the forums as you probably tell.
Looking for some advice, recently bought a ka and plan to put a 1700 16v puma into it.
Im dropping the suspension 30/40 mm havnt decided yet and slapping on some 15's to help hold the road a little better, and improve the looks if at all possible
Need some help with the wiring, dont realy know wat needs to be one in terms of sensors ecu etc..... Hopefully trying to find somebody whos done it and knows or anybody willing to share abit of wisdom.
All other mechanical work is sorted i am a mechanic so is my dad so got that base covered not too hot on my auto 'leccy skills though
Any help or advice appreciated, thanks
Tom

You're going to need a loom to suit new engine, as sensors likely to be allover the place compared with existing loom, plus ecu to run it.
Nothing hard really lecky wise, can put you onto someone for the loom no problem, or diy as they are not hard to do, just time consuming.
Are you sure it's going to all fit in there!!

it does fit, but its harder to do the puma and the other yamaha ford engines, although they are better and alot lighter, the 1.8 and 2.0 zetec there are off the shelf kits to do it, have a look on myka.org, this was my ka 175bhp zetec se engine

There's a couple or people on my forum with a Ka with a 1.7 in it so it can be done. Nippy little buggers!
As Tabetha says, you'll need the whole loom complete with sensors or else you'll be in a whole world of pain.
There's often people selling a 1.7 'conversion' for fiestas on fleabay including sensors and loom - might be a good place to start.

I seem to recall the wiring/electrical side being one of the most difficult things about putting the 1.7 puma in a ka?
There's quite a few zetec engine ka's around and even more ongoing projects
If you were considering any of the following engines instead, there's a mount kits, etc available from trackdesigns...
Zetec 1.8 silvertop
Zetec 2.0 silvertop
Zetec 1.8 blacktop
Zetec 2.0 blacktop
1600 CVH
RS Turbo CVH
ZVH
Zetec Turbo
Focus RS duratec

Would you say it would be a easier to do a 1.8 zetec ?
Thats exactly wat i want a nippy little bugger that people will underestimate (especially mates in there zetec s' and saxo vtr adn vts')
Would anyone be able to make me a loom up, obviously for a fee ?? (either for the 1.8 zetec or 1700 ??)
Thanks Alot for all your replys so far

wideka - that KA looks awesome
been toying with the idea of a sportier KA for a bit of fun - or a puma (as never had one)
not that it will match my ST focus's power but just a nippy runabout.

The 1.8 will certainly be more widely available and cheaper than the 1.7 puma one. Ford only had a contract with yamaha for 110,000 1.7 units and they were virtually all used up in the 140,000 pumas that were sold.
Hence they are becoming a little short on supply these days - and certainly not new.
The 1.7 is a lighter engine though and a tad smaller so a bit easier to fit I'd imagine. I've certainly seen more 1.7 Ka's than 1.8s.

Definately going for the 1.8 now, cheaper more widely availble and can get an engine mounting kit quite cheap, plus the ka 1.3 edura box slips straight on without any mods so sorts me for driveshafts etc etc etc
Much wiser and easier choice but still very good power, looking for about 150 bhp for the first year or so after that who knws :P the back balance is the limit
Can somebody also tell me the difference between the 1.8 zetec black top and silver top ??
Once done ill definately being heading up to some meets awell, If my little ka isnt bullied 2 much :P
