well she had blankets and clothes.

obviously we should have conducted some testing prior to this event to make sure they would keep her warm enough in these circumstances

oh i must book some fridge time to test my coat before i go out later

hopefully next time she'll be better prepared then and you won't have any worries maybe others reading the thread may think more about it as well.

i bet readers in canada and scandinavia are laughing at us nearly dieing in a few inches of snow

3 feet of snow at the top of the hill she was on

she was more than prepared for a few inches....

but this was a complete freak, nobody (exept you) can prepare for these circumstances, and on the off chance something like this happens, it catches people out. end of story really

to be fair in this situation, it was pretty freak and extreme the way the news portrayed it, and the way it sounds like it came on judging by this thread

everybody takes these sort of issues for granted, if u spend your life preparing for the worst, you would never end up leaving the house. i live in birmingham, should i wear a stab vest upon leaving the premises?

ask ray mears

if you leave on foot, you should always carry enough food and water for a week,

enough clothes to keep you warm in -10 (must be fridge tested first so you know it keeps you warm)

some blankets,

i would recommend a tent,

some flairs

a blow up boat incase of floading,

a long wave radio.

some cash,

a hard hat incase you get hit in the head

some mining tools, incase you get stuck in a cave

and some rope incase you get stuck up a tree

some toilet paper

Then, and only then, can you walk to the shop

you're just being ridiculous because you're too proud to admit that i've got a point

it makes no difference if it was 3 inches of snow or 3 feet. i'm not contesting that it was a freak storm that you could not prepare for so as not to get stuck in it. you are advised to be prepared to spend the night in your car if necessary. it's hardly a difficult concept to understand is it?

im fully prepared for this

i have bought and trained a sheepdog

and bought a flock of sheep for said sheepdog to keep in tow en route to said pub

i also have a small chilean sheep shearer on standby, and enough wool in the flock to make coats for myself, and the tank crew

of course this is assuming theres no nuclear blast, as my dog, the sheep, and the chilean sheep shearer will all bite the dust

unless of course they bring tanks.....

To be honest fella you overeacted with your replies. If 200 people had exactly the same problem on the same stretch of road doesn't that tell you something?!

Obviously this was not your normal bit of UK snow. I could be wrong but I don't believe 18 inches of snow has dropped in 6hours frequently in the last 20 years.

And its not as if she was screaming and being histerical while in this situation. Sounds like she kept calm and dealt with the situation as best she could.

So I don't understand what warrents all the negative comments.

Glad she is ok pal

it tells you that 200 people got stuck yes. as i said, i'm not surprised at that. that is what happens when you get so much snow and that is why you are advised to be prepared for it. i really don't see what's so difficult to understand about that?

and if you are prepared for it, what is the big deal about getting stuck?

you've still been owned, which translates in you making yourself look a cunt hence you being called one

(I'll get spell check again one day, then i can look down on others once again for there inability to spell correctly )

Nick, listen.

The fact that it was "blanket" (gedit) coverage of the London/SE weather was not sufficient warnings for the simple country folk of the SW. I reckon they all sat there laughing at the people from "that London" getting stuck, and no buses running.

for them.

And if you know it's treacherous, why go on a steep hill

dear lord... it was hardly snowing when she started the long climb up the hill....

it came on that fast

she isnt fooking stupid, if it was snowing that heavily, a) she wouldnt have gone out in the first place,
or B) she would have stayed at a mates house...

but the fact is, it wasnt snowing when she left... and within 1 min of starting to climb the hill, cars were stuck

and london had snow all week, we had ZERO, so why would we assume yesterday would be any different?

it's nothing to do with your spelling mate. it's to do with using pathetic and american phrases that a 12 year old would use

no they were saying it all week, but it never happened. "they" are wrong all the time, so we very rarely listen tbh.

and today, again we have rain...no snow

"they" say we are haviing snow...i cant see any

if you looked at the weather map i did on thursday am, it showed no snow on the lower side of exeter, but heavy snow above exeter..

well, my mrs had absolutly no snow above exeter, but got stuck on the lower side of it

Personally I always leave a sleeping bag in my car anyway, just in case.

You are only talking a fiver for a cheep sleeping bag, so well worth doing for all IMHO
