A friend of my cousin was a PCSO in Wiltshire for a year before he jacked it in & went back to a much better paid job in private security
Basically little or no powers overall, very badly paid in comparison to what you would earn by joining the police instead & in some cases ended up working harder than the actual PC's in the area he was based out of

Tommy? With that spelling ability, you'll fit right in
You'll be needing this
and this
Genuine question though. Why do you want to do it? I'm guessing you aren't 18 and fresh out of School, so why the change of career now?
ETA : I don't actually think Coppers are tossers. They have to deal with too much shite for my liking though!

Yes seriously. I don't find out until 1st March.
I found the maths, verbal reasoning and logic and the 20 minute interview ok, but the role plays I hated.
I think I done ok but I dont want to build my hopes up
Have already been told if successful, my day 2 is 9th March!

Nice one mate. Im sure you will be fine. They have changed the system around a lot compared to when I did it... (puts hat on back of head and takes a puff from an imaginary ciggy...dont worry you will get that when you get in haha)
The role plays are madness... Its all customer focus these days.....(bong bong start exercise, start exercise... yet again you will get that when you get to Hendon), Like being a manager of Tesco... was it the customer parking in a disabled bay scenario?
Dont know if you know much about the new system (IPLDP), basically 5 weeks at Hendon doing officer safety, then to borough doing more of the role plays and learning the basics.
If you need any help or advice then give me a shout, Ill be more than happy to give you a heads up.
I wouldnt worry about the physical... To say its easy its an understatement
Do you have any preferences where you would like to be posted if sucessful?
Anyway...Back to the thread.
Well PCSO... A lot of them now days are People are sucessful Police Officer applicants. For some reason a lot of them got told to become a PCSO for a year whilst they wait for a slot at Hendon. Some of them are ok, they do a good job and are pretty switched on. Its not bad pay for what it is (lets face it you wont become rich doing this job...well unless you become a Super Nintendo or above.
If thats what you fancy doing, then go to your local Police station and ask to shadow one during their shift.

Was just asking what the job was like etc, how long does it usually take once your apply to being actually employed?(if your successful!)They are not currently recruiting for police officers atm!I kind of can not wait if the application process is too long even for a PCSO

You have to realise that nothing with the Police application is done fast time... It took me over a year from initial interview to starting hendon.

I applied when i was 19. The medical/physical/role-plays were suprisingly easy i found. The 2day assessment was fucking hell to put it bluntly. Maybe it proved i was never meant to be a copper, but being made to sit in a river in a swimming costume in early december, then shoving trainers on wet muddy feet, running up hill to the minibus to get changed and be ready for more hiking within 5mins, so they could interview us while jogging to the next bit was torture.
AFAIK only a few forces do this, could be wrong, but they scrapped doing this a year or so after that.
Good luck guys.
As for the PCSO- well, everyone needs a job, and theyre few and far between.

I think you are only allowed 6 or less when you apply as you wouldnt be allowed to drive police vehicles with any more. I had 6 on the licence when I applied if my memory served me right and I also just got done for a non standard number plate. But once they are off you should be ok. But if any of them are for drink drive you have had it

Do they do 2day assessments still?

I never did anything like that.....they scrapped the obstacle course about a year before I joined. But I think a lot of people underestimate how much concentration the assessment day requires. For five hours, me and a bunch of other people were locked up in a mansion in the middle of nowhere undergoing all these psychometric tests....feels such a relief when the test is officially over.
