Barn find - 35 grand Golf GTI
Ok not quite a barn find as the cars been cosseted away in a carcoon for 25 yrs and is completely mint having been run/serviced to keep it in "as new" condition.
Its not a Ford but I'd still like some input on what folk think its worth as its open to bids with a closing date of 1st Feb.
1983 VW Golf GTI Campaign in Mars red
All factory options
1300 yes thirteen hundred miles on the clock with every MOT to back it up.
I reckon its worth between ten and twenty grand as its got to be the lowest mileage Campaign outside of the Wolfsburg museum.
So what do YOU reckon its worth
This is not a for sale post!

Hells bollocks!
Phoned the seller to confirm viewing to be told that he has been offered 35k for the car and not to waste time and money travelling to Somerset unless I was making a better offer.
Mk1 Golfs are the bollocks but I'd rather blow 10k on a minter with more miles then 25k on the best RS500.

He's pullin ya chain mate, ask him when the guys doing the deal and could you give him a call a day or two later to see how the sale went, then you'll go down with sensible money.
I imagine he's been in the pub talking about selling his old Golf and some know it all in the next urinal told him its worth £35k and all Mk1 Gti's had 500 bhp.

oh dear
cam, that is a seriously collectable car..if its as described.....as for what its worth well....depends how badly you or someone else wants it...i would have thought your valuation of 18-20 could possibly be fair...but where do you find another....and if a propper vw anorak with plenty dosh (even more than you but i doubt it) wants it then its a no go!

As for all the "I wouldn't give it the steam off my piss" brigade I would hazard a guess that you never driven and enjoyed what a good MK1 Golf GTI has to offer a driver - GREAT FUN and remember it was THE car that started the hot hatch craze! A truely iconic car imo.

i remember having a do with a mk1 golf gti on the a41 back in the late 80's when my old man got a mk2 rs2000, the golf thought it was the bollocks, unfortunately the hurricane racing engine in the old escort showed the yuppie whats what and left it.
i never got old golf gti's, they were a very common car,i can see the interest in a very low miler though. theres a chevette hsr 1 of only 34 on ebay at the mo, now thats a interesting car, and hs chevette hot hatchs were around before a golf gti.

i love my old vw's I got a mk2 scirocco storm.
I appreciate the golf mk1 and all that it's about. However I do think they're over-rated and late to the game when there were far more important cats prior to the release of the gti mk1.

There was a proper 'barn-found' VW Split Screen Pickup a few years back. An old boy bought it in the late 50's (I think) and didn't tell his wife. He hid it away in the barn, then shortly after that he died. It was only discovered (fully intact) when a plane crashed into the barn in recent years. It had something like 250km on the clock.
I don't even think that was worth £35k, let alone a 1980's Golf.
