people start on one another and, before you know it, it turns to shit and then everything else comes into it
i wouldn't pay £35k for a golf, and if i did, i'd make sure no one knew about it
but others find that sort of thing a good way to spend money so i'm not going to knock them for being idiots (unless they've re mortgaged their homes just to buy a car and have to now live with their parents for the next 25 years )
but you have some rather uncomfortable issues arising on page 2 and i'd rather not get involved

wow,35k.
the mk1's are fast becoming sought after.
i know a mate who has almost 20 locked up in his barn now, buying them whilst they are dirt cheap still. all original low mile low owner examples!!

you try to help on here and get ear ache for you troubles, and as for pointing out a chevette hs is a hot hatch that was around before the golf gti which gets bandied around as a iconic car and the first hot hatch when its just a copy of other cars before it is like a slap in the kisser for golf fans.
heres a vauxhall chevette hs its a 1975 n reg and its got a 2.3 engine

fair play after 2 attempts at trying to help you you took my advice on the wheels you were after and contacted the company who originally sold them and then after all that decided not to buy them , shame as they were special magnesium and all that.

But may I just point out that the GTI was out in 1977 albeit in LHD form only as they couldnt satify demand nevermind about making RHD where as the HS was launched in 1978.

Funnily whough I had a Chevette 2.3 HS twincam after my GTI.
But may I just point out that the GTI was out in 1977 albeit in LHD form only as they couldnt satify demand nevermind about making RHD where as the HS was launched in 1978.

The Chevette was a limited run for homologation purposes, whereas the Golf was a fully fledged production car so is more true to the 'hot hatch' ideal.
Regardless of what came first, the Golf GTi was the car that started the hot hatch revolution - After all what market were the Pug 205 GTi, XR2/3, Nova GTE, Astra GTE aimed at? Not the Chevette buyer...
The Golf may have failings, but why bother to dispute it as the original hot hatch when it just is.
But back on topic... where's the pics and did it 'really' go for 35 fat ones?

I think their info is questionable and they are referring to both the Chevettes and the Golfs production years not the HS and GTI models or if they are correct
I loved my HS to bits and spent a mint on it (John Noble built 2.6 stroker, full black magic bodykit and had it colour changed by Charles Clarkes Vauxhall in Sheffield to Cherry red like the Wayne Cherry black magic HS on the cover of the DTV catalogue) sold it to a guy who used it in sprints then bought it back off him after I rolled my Xpack RS2000 and then some scumbag stole it
Another HS is a car on my list of must haves as again it was great fun and dare I say a lot better drive out of the box than comparable RSs *ducks*

nice one Cam ,
its funny how i mention them on a golf thread and you had one, tbh the old chevette is a bit of a dark horse, they were a fantastic car and look amazing in silver or black. i had a lotus sunbeam that had been to skip browns in ridley green which is close to me it had a road speed conversion, i loved the car but at the time i had 2 mk2 rs2000's aswell and the cost of lotus stuff from SB's was eye watering, i sold the car in the Motoring News and never saw it again. i had loads of fun in the lotus like when i first stuck the 5 spd zf in reverse but really it was in first as i wasn't used to it and shot forward whilst looking backwards fast and nearly ran my dad over .
i like the fact you can pick up lotus sunbeams and chevette hs's for sensible money compared to escort twin cams and rs1800's which went daft price wise.
anyhow good luck finding a golf

Got a call from bamber to tow him home so ended up with my pal towing him in his rather fruity rallycross engined mk2 van/passion wagon lol (310 degree cam etc) on a 4ft long tow at 90mph back to just off J30 DAMN THEY WERE THE DAYS LOLOLOL
Cost bamber a fortune to sort out and then he swapped the Lotus for an HS that had been raped of its twincam but had a very healthy SOHC 2.3 on 48s etc in its place.
Its funny as the two cars I am actively seeking out are a red mk1 GTI and an HS preferably with a 2.6 DOHC.

Going to have a look at it later today (Weds) with a pal from the DSG.
The seller comes over as a grade A spam javelin but its a very, very rare car.

A friend of mine is putting his mars red golf gti up for sale.
Not sure of the mileage but its a Y reg and he bought it when it was a year old or so. Its only used in the summer and taxed for 6 months of the year.
He has a few different cars including a mint original astra gte, an early ford prefect and an evo 1.
I know the astra gte is going up for sale aswell.
I can have a word for more info on the mk1 and pics etc if ya interested.
Just drop me a pm mate

if you pay 35k for a golf then you really need your head looking at,fair enough it wont be falling apart and have most of the interior trim inside the glovebox because its broken but you couldnt use it as it would depreciate with every mile.i wouldnt pay 35k for an rs500 with that mileage for the same reason, but at the end of the day its worth what somebody is willing to pay but if somebody pays 35k they need a checkup from the neck up.

It didn't sell for 35k....it went for 41k!!!!!!!!!
I valued it at 20k maximum but I suppose its the lowest mileage Campaign and to folk of a certain age its one of THE cars to have.

Anything post 50's is worth nothing generally. Guy I know went to Sweden to buy a 55 (IIRC poss earlier) "crotch cooler" beetle. Properly mint, gave just over £8K or so.
