keV, what I mean is that you can only buy 1.47 dollars to your pound these days. A few months ago it was nearly two.

Your imported garrett turbo will now cost a lot more.

Dont forget when buying one you need the following:

4 inch air filter to turbo hose
water feed and returns
oil feed - in line filter
oil return - modified 2wd one is ok
v band adapter welded onto your downpipe (i am assuming they all come with vband fitting not the standard fitting to the downpipe)

I was thinking the same gt3071 with 83lb Siemens and msd chip.
currently on msd 380 kit with .55 housing t34.
It seems a fair bit of $$ for a little more power.
Feel like the escort needs abit more power but trying to decide if the cost and risk to a std engine with a group n head gasket is worth it.

The end of the thread was from 2009 and the turbo tech has moved on so much, I am running 469bhp and 500 ftlb on a stock engine with metal gasket...on BW efr

The main thing for me is enjoyment vs cost.
I do about 1k a year in the car and don’t find the .55 T34 an issue at all, at the same time I would not want to take a backwards step and use a turbo that will cause anymore lag than is already present.
Iam not into messing with cars these days so any mods need to be bolt, don’t want to open the engine up etc.
In an ideal world I would take it to Mark go EFR and new ecu etc but the cost is just not worth it to me for what and how often I use the car.
Guess in reality efr would be new turbo and manifold, new ecu/ loom etc and injectors.
where as with a gt30 it’s the turbo injectors and exchange my chip with msd then take it to Mark again for check over.
for the cost difference I could add a 6 degree beam to the car.
To be honest I like the car as it is but I just know at some point I will want abit more, just not sure if that little bit more say 450 if worth adding more stress to a standard engine.

The efr can be run on the same management and chip, same injectors etc as any other turbo but to get the best out of it you do need the twin scroll manifold.

Yes Mark said it really needs the manifold when I was up last year.
Think it’s only the gt30 that I have seen off the shelf chips for from msd?
Think I will just sort the gearbox this year and use it again and try and get this house build out the way then I know what spare cash I have if any after loosing loads on crypto currencies!

I don't think MSD does any off the shelf chips for a GT30. When I was looking to upgrade my turbo I was also choosing between a GT30 or a T34. But the people from MSD said that the GT30 would have surge issues on a standard engine, so it would have to be live mapped to limit the boost in the lower RPM. And I thought it was also said that the Cosworth ATP exhaust housing would be too restrictive (something like 0.74 while 0.82 would be best).

Besides that I think the GT30 is not easily installed with the oil and water connections. So I choose for the T34.

Hi Marc,
they list the chip on the website for gt30 next step after t34/ 55lb injectors.
think I will stick with what I have and just sort the gearbox as otherwise it will snowball!

You gotta let the golf r drivers go, time has moved on. Our cars are special, theirs are mass produced but we have to have some skill to pedal them, they have to floor it and hold on.

Yes but still frustrating!, although can’t see many cars bothering your one!
Only car to try it on so far was a young lad in a Clio 192!.
May see if Mark can wind the boost up as it’s set to 26psi peak and holds about 24psi, was done like this to give my gearbox a chance.
When the new box goes in will see if he can set it up nearer the 32psi peak for the msd380 kit.

They indeed do. That was also the reason why I asked them. But on a standard engine they said the GT3071 would have surge issues. Maybe if you have a ported head or a different inlet cam it wouldn't surge. But I'm not sure if an off the shelf chip is then still possible.

But IMO the T34 is on the limit for the gearbox. To have the full potential from the GT3071 you would already need a stronger box. And now with the EFR around I'm not sure if there is still a point in getting a GT3071. The EFR needs a new manifold, but the GT3071 needs a lot of hassle with the oil connections I believe.

A while ago there was someone trying to fit the GT3071, but in the end he sold it and also went for the T34.

Ah ok cool, on the gt3071 wasn’t there an anti surge shroud that needed to be fitted to allow use on a standard head etc? (Think that’s what I read).
The gearbox is abit of a lottery hence why iam sorting it now rather than it leaving me stranded miles from home.

My standard box let go after the EFR and we ran 1.8 bar low boost and 2.2 bar high, (thats 32psi on high) it is that big chunk of torque that does it.

From what I could gather he removed it as he couldn’t get someone to map it?

Yes I think so. Which wouldn't have been a probleem if an off the shelf chip had been available.
