Default Motor trade crashing customers cars

was talking at work today with the new boy and he asked what cars we have damaged.

my worst was I left a van on a 2 post lift over night when we came in the morning one side of the lift had dropped and the van was sat on its side

one of the blokes wrote off a cavalier into a landrover

and the boss managed to roll a customers alfa 164 through a few gardens and walked away

so what have you done then

nothing ever done to a motor i've worked on.

Although i was there when one of the lad's was welding an exhaust up with oxy acet, it caught hold of the interior and torched the thing. By the time he droped the ramp it was toast, funny as fuck that was pissing for week's

back when i was a lad in my 2nd year of apprentceship
2 year old rover 214 sei(was a while ago)
serviced it, took it out for quick road test and parked it on its side against a tree after rolling it twice
only panel that survived was the petrol cap
they let me keep that and my job
i was i bit sore after it

Fortunately not anywhere i've worked - but i've seen an MR2 Turbo stacked into an Evo in the carpark when an apprentice thought he'd show off to me and do a burnout in the MR2T - problem was, it was in for new brakes

He thought he'd put it in 1st, start moving then left foot brake and floor it at the same time - launched it straight into the side of an Evo

about 6 months ago when i was working in a garage doing my apprentiship. i went outside to bring in a escort for a service looked behind me nothing was there adjusted my seat started reversing and bang smacked into the side of a volvo that some old boy pulled up in never even see him,

should of looked but just didnt think.
boss didnt talk to me for about 2 weeks and it ended up costing 1k to repair
Gutted i was bit shaken up aswell something as daft as that.
thought about just throwing my toolbox in my car and fookin off

Bad times!

still kept my job and the bloke i worked with said dont worry about i reversed and banged about 3 in a year

One of our guys rolled a V10 Diesel Touareg into a field on it's way to it's new customer...........

I crushed a Discovery 2 door back on it's front wing when reversing off a 4 post lift with door still open..........

Too true, accidents happen unfortunately, as you well know......

We are not as bad as another NZ dealer that spun a new R8 up an embankment...........

Never say never, ive (touch wood) not dont anything i couldnt cover up in the last 10 years, my workmate pulled a car inside the workshop, oxide & neutrino came on the radio, he turned it up, opened the door, got out with the car running and in gear, it lunged forward and promptly came to rest on the boss' ferrari 360. Snaped the bumper in half on the fez, damaged indicator, bumper on the other car. Not a great way to either damage a 6 month old ferrari or loose your job !!

Ive ripped the side out of a workshop van with a 44ft unit and trailer in a customers yard !!!
A other mechanic was in the back of the van at the time and he got the blame as it was parked on double yellows

Reversed a works LWB Transit into the side of a brand new Mazda 6 once.

Funny thing was, i reversed into the space, but i knew there was a cone on my near side, so when reversing, i thought the noise was me pushing the cone back, which was fine, done it all the time, however it was actually the back end of the van ploughing up the side of this mazda

Ł2400 later it was fixed and i got a fair ripping from the lads at work and the boss.

One of those things though, said sorry and needless to say after that day i got out and moved cones instead of being lazy

In the 10 years Ive been doing this, I;ve been pretty lucky. Only a few scuffs here and there. Worst one was probably accidentally starting a car up in gear. (as an apprentice) It drove into my workbench. Thankfully the blue paper towel holder was in the way and stopped a lot of damage. IIRC we just got the sales support guys to touch it in.

Saying that I bet Comet drop a big TV occasionally so no ones immune from the odd cock up.

On Christmas Eve 2004 I was delivering a Brand new Mini Cooper S with only 13 miles on the clock to it's new home when some prat came up a one way street the wrong way and pulled out in front of me and hit the O/S front and pushed me into 5 parked cars on the otherside of the road. I suffered whip lash and the air bag nearly took my right thumb off, still got the scare.

i worked as a service driver delivering new cars a while back, i delivered a brand new navara to a building site for the owner of the site, the prick asked me to drive it round the back of the site and park it there,,, i had to REVERSE IT back round there due to the angle of it, when reversing it there was a bobcat on a mound digging a trench out but had the bottom scraper thing on it,,,, being a diesel and a building site its a bit loud and its quite a torquy engine,,,,,, i reversed the near side all the way down the side of the bobcats shovel thing then on the bumper,, kept reving it thinking im on a hill till the bloke in the bob cat screamed hes head off as i was pulling it off the mound

that was anoying,, but the upside is i never had to deliver it back there again !!!!

This happened to my old Chevette years back, my Dad took it to mate of his who owned his own garage to work on it. My Dad went collect car, his mate not there, so he just got in and drove over to collect me. As the car came into view, what the ****, the front wing smashed in, my Dad hadn't even noticed!!!

His mate said the 'clutch was a bit sharp' that's my he crashed into his workshop door. He repaired it O.K., but cost him more than the initial repair job!

put a company car into the back of some arse at a roundabout, no damage but only 2k miles on the car at the time! bloke tried suing for whiplash and alsorts but it was bollocks, not heard anything since!

someone i worked with used to wheelspin in and out of his bay all the time. only one day he did it was a automatic golf and it just took off and launched itself into the wall! cracked the bumper and took a big chip out of the paint, he coloured the bumper in with a pen of the same colour! no-one noticed!!

another one was a chap had a e300 merc on the rolling road doing a brake test, only he left it in drive, jumped out, set up the emmissions test and jumped back in and gave it full throttle! the emissions machine took the full brunt and it cracked a few bits of plastics on the merc.

I did 6 months as an apprentice at an m.o.t. station, and had to sit in the car, start it up etc on the ramp. We had a fiat uno in from a local fiat dealer and the gear stick was that sloppy it felt like it was in neutral, but it was in 1st! I started it up and it drove off the ramp!
Luckily the the little safety ramps stopped it, as they caught on the front wings, the front wheels were hanging in mid air. I was known as demolition man from then on!

When i was an apprentice with the local bus company i started a bus we were working on in gear and put the front half in the pit it was only the quick thinking of the guy i was working with hitting the emergency engine stop that saved the whole thing from going in on its side,

The fucker's in the garage took the rip for months.

I once got in a car that was on a ramp and the car moved, by the time I'd jumped in to pull the handbrake up the door had got stuck on one of the posts luckily I guess if I hadn't of jumped in I'd of been stuck between the door and post and I was there alone so it wouldn't of been funny at all.

Obviously insurance covered it but I did feel really bad about it even though I'd not personally parked it on the ramp in the first place.
