Question Audi TT or Boxster ?

Got around £6k to spend on a newer car for the wife.

The Boxster is her 1st choice.

Which one will be easier to find in good condition at this price, and which is more reliable ?

Cheers

EDIT: Up to £8k with a push

I've seen both for mid £6k, but we could probably stretch to £8k

If you can get it for the money, Boxster over a TT any day

i would choose a boxster over a TT anyday, but you wont get a nice one for £6k

for 8k you'd be looking at an early 2.5 model, but the same money buys you a TT with more power, slightly more modern, and less expensive repair costs should something go wrong.

it'll be a very scabby porsche for 6k which will probably end up costing more in repairs

the only Porsche Boxter i'd have is a 3.2s, the rest are gutless and not that inviting to drive - although if it for a women i'm sure a 2.5 will do

loads of TT's to choose from, just dont be tempted into a LHD one - they are a pain to sell on

TT is likely to be newer for the money, as said and cost less to repair

Just because the cars are the same price doesnt mean you can afford to run them!

Not a personall comment here BTW

But loadsa people on here see cars like a BOxster a now "cheap" cars - they are cheap to buy true - but porsche parts are HIDEOUSLY expensive!!

Don't get caught out with a repair bill that you can't afford becasuse the car needs a new engine and you cant get big end bearnigs (boxster).

I disagree actually Alex.... they can be bad if you go to Porsche. But not THAT bad. In my personal experience of running a Boxster for 9 years and 40k miles.. they can be SILLY cheap to run... mines still on original clutch and brake discs!!! and I've driven like a CNUT for most of those miles!

AND if you use Jasmine motorsport, or some of the US sites, Porsche parts are VERY cheap... you should see some of the results me and Polly x have got.. MENTALLY cheap!

However... I wouldn't buy a £6k Boxster!!! surely its gonna be a million mile old dog?!? and I agree with Alex here that you could get caught out with a huge repair bill!

As above my Boxster S has given me no grief since owning it (touchwood!!). It is for sale as well but want 9.5k for her if you can stretch... I looked at loads of cheaper ones and all were donkeys!

my mates just got a 02 or 03 TT convertable, with few mods, for 6.5k cash, not a bad car tbh,its only a 1.8turbo same engine as golf turbo,he had a golf first and i drove the golf and it was a bit laggy and he'd had that tuned to 220bhp so about the same as TT,but i drove the TT and it was a much better drive, not laggy at all

TT over the boxter anyday.

The only thing is older TT's always need alot of work doing to them if they haven't been touched for a while, but if you get a 1.8t they are a great engine go for a 225 model...The 3.2 goes through fuel very quick, but they are still worth more money.

Fair enough! nice car that. Clear late lights and the glass window really make the difference to the looks. Lowered and a nice set of wheels and job done.

Good spot. shame its gone.

I see a lot more troublesome Audi TT's through our dealership than Porsche Boxsters, and yes as Porkie says you can find cheaper servicing bits from non-Porsche outlets.

I have no idea about prices though, but 6k sounds very cheap for one.

If youve only got 6-7K to play with i would not try and choose one over the other.

Have you or your misses actually driven either car yet, that could be a big deciding factor!

Id simply look at both tt and boxters in your price range and pick the best condition car you can find.

Ive always seen the Boxster as a real poor mans Porshe and the TT as a posh Beetle Personaly I'd have the TT of that sort of money bracket/age range over the porshe, as it's a much better car all round imo after driving both a few times in the past. Unless of course your missus just wants a nice keyring, then buy the Porker
