Homemade Breather/Separator - HELP PLEASE!
A mate of mine has offered to make me an oil separator to my spec for next to nothing, which is very nice of him, but i have a couple of q's before i am happy with my design for him....
I have attached a simple cut away sketch below; is the atmosphere outlet designed correctly, ie: going almost all the way to the top inside the separtaor tank???
Also, what is the general diameter of the atmoshere pipe?
I haven't shown the top two outlets on the drawing as not to complicate the sketch. The drain pipe is going to a fitting on the sump plug.
Any pointers or advice will be much apprecieated.
Cheers, Rich

Yep absoloutely right, this is to stop oil pouring out, so it can settle in the bottom, I would use at least 3/4" atmo pipe, if a trap was also put in opposite the pipe inlets this would stop any vapour being able to get near the outlet(atmo) pipe, ie between the inlet/outlet.

Thanks for the input guys....
Tabetha: i have updated my sketch following what you've said about a trap for the atmosphere outlet, though my interpretation seems to be more of a baffle.... is this what you mean???

Yep that is what I would do, the baffle needs to be about 1/2 the depth of the total height, it just gives the oil vapour something cooler to condense on.

Thanks Tabetha!!!
I will get some pics up when it's done, will be all in stainless braided hose, so should look pretty good if all goes to plan.
Cheers
