wind turbines homemade......
anyone ever made home made one? are they any good? was just summit that came up in coversation at work weather could run lighting on a stand alone garage with a small homemade jobbie

theres a guy at work lives on a farm and the bloke on the farm next to him makes them and uses them during the lambing season. His are based on the spinny round signs you see outside newsagents advertising things like "lotto sold here" etc, he uses them to drive a car alternator which in turn charges a battery which powers a few lights around the fields where there arent electricity cables etc. Simple design and idea but it works

a mate of mine used a small metal fan blades with a diameter of no more than 10". he butchered a hard drive to get the metal spindle out of it, connected this onto the fan blades along with a small set of coil windings(thing to generate electricity?) along with an LED. When the blade spins , the energy produced will light up the LED brighter the harder it spins.He isnt powering anything at present with it but in short , you could do this at home
