Default Ameture Radio people - anyone experience with the following.

Has anyone had any experience with the following radio units

Phillips FM1000 series (FM1000, FM1200, FM1300 etc)

does anyone know anything about the mobile units and the base units with a remote radio head and a unit tray?

Reason i ask, is that they currently use the FM1000 with full keypad remote head in trains for the NRN system, but it can be very easily modified to be used as a radio tranceiver for other purposes

Also, i believe they used to be used by the police force aswell

Cheers

Matt - its nothing to do with illegal transmission

its more to do with the other uses that are out there for it - a quick look at the radio head in the picture above should give a good enough idea

Paul, you would possibly need a radio programming head to re-tune these - if they are like our Nokia's They run on PROM controlled software.

General output is limited to low power UHF/VHF 6 watts, but they should be able to be opened up (reprogrammed) and reset to high power 25 watts transmit.

I doubt you use them on the 70cms band (as pictured) on the railway do you.

Are you looking to loan some for the ring ?

Graceland, if you PM me EXACTLY what you're asking I'll mail my dad. He's a bit of a pro\geek\bore when it comes to these things and mods himself. Know he can do what you're talking about too...

Tony - its not for use at the ring, but other means and totally un-car related

Cola - i've been speaking with Pete and he is knowlegeable about them - we've been looking at the system last night, but just started to scratch the surface of what we can do with it

i'm not sure what band the railway uses Tony, but it definately uses the FM1200 series (remote radio head + tray) units

Is that on a trunked or untrunked network ?

The sticker on the back should have 2 letters on before all the numbers, that denotes the frequency and band they are currently programmed too.

Im going as its getting sad now

Cool Graceland, if you need anything at all just shout me. Dad would be overjoyed to be able to speak about them without the listener (usually me... mum has learned to run) visably melting with boredom.

Tony - i don't have access to the tray on a train, but from what i gather, they are trunked and are all pre-programed into "NRN Channels" - whatever frequency they operate on i am not sure

Cola - much appreciated

i know someone like that ... he can tell you what every chip in a pc can do and how it interacts with the next one .. also with amature radio equipment .. just looks up each chip reference no and after an hour or so can totally run through how to adjust stuff ..

he is also very bloody boring .. single, lives at home with his mum and is 50

and NO im not going to ask him as he might think i want to be his friend

very much doubt it will be trunked m8y as railway radios tend to be on just a repeater system tx one freq rx on another
