My labs phantom pregnancy........
Ok, last year my lab had what is known as a phantom pregnancy. Not a nice thing for a 18 month old lab to go through so im wanting her to have a litter this time round so it doesnt happen again.
She's a pedigree with papers but she is not KC registered and it seems because of this, the studs ive tried will not let us take her.
Does anyone have any advice or any info on where/who i could take her too, or is it just a case of keep searching until i can find someone who will take her???
Cheers

you are not supposed to breed a lab till they are at least 2,get her eyes checked for hereditary illnesses and her hips scored before breeding if you do decide to,that goes the same for the father.that will ensure that you took the best precautions before breeding as i have heard from a guy that breeds locally to me he was sued over a pup he sold which had a gentic disease which could have been avoided.good luck whatever you do but think long and hard as it is a long commitment which could also change your dogs temperament, ours growls now at certain people, before she would go up to anybody and lie down to get her belly rubbed.

Ballin - it is where the dogs body actually thinks it's pregnant but not! She would of got a swollen tummy, started acting pregnant, she could even have started producing milk. It's quite common in doggies!

i bred my kc bitch with a kc dog recently,i would advise YOU to think about getting your dog up the spout hard as its no walk in the park.we had 6 pups in total, the 1st was a big boy who was breeched and died as a result,i had to pull him out which wasnt a good experience for anybody,my wife was hysteric as she didnt want the rest to die,the next boy was born in the garden which didnt do casey (our dog) any help as it too was a big boy who came out backwards and i had to pull him out also to save him from the fate that befell his brother,of course my wife was crying and screaming at me to make sure this 1 lived, next was a stillborn which didnt help then the middle girl popped out.the first 2 that lived were perfect, next followed another stillborn then the runt, lola which we kept.i had to sleep on the floor with them for around a week and stay off work as we were determined not to lose her as she was tiny and couldnt feed herself for quite a few days.after that our house was constantly full of people wanting to see the pups which was very annoying and also people saying they would take 1 and pulling out later on.i kept them for almost 8 weeks which was a pain cleaning up their pee and poop,oh and for the first couple of weeks i had to initiate them going to the toilet by rubbing their bits with a baby wipe, then there was the barking, whining and fighting.great experience but a lot of hassle.we kept lola and she is getting on great now 17 weeks later and she made it all worthwhile.as for kc registration they are a bunch of snotty nosed twats,i couldnt name my pups what i wanted as it wasnt to kc spec.they are up their own arses.

Also had to deal with stilbournes and having to get some breathing as it seemed quite comman that some needed help when delivered. Not nice!
To be totally honest, its nothing to do with actually having pups or the money or anything of course, its purely because we dont want her to have another phantom pregnancy and the vets and many others advised that it would be best for her to have a litter and then 'usually', they wont have another phantom again.
ballin, as maria said mate, and ours changed totally for about a month or so, and was feeling really down. Was prodcing milk, had the swollen stomach, and would round her toys and teddys up several times a day and put them all in one place or in her basket and guard them. Was very strange to watch, and felt so sorry for her, but theres not really anything you can do about it so you just have to let her get over it.

She can be looking at her toy for a while, stalking it out, then all of a sudden pounce on it, then bounces around it just like that!!!!!
By the way he's awesome mate!

20,000 unwanted puppies every year... prob not a good idea to add to it! i wanted my rotty to have puppies but was talked out of it by a dog trainer. leave it to the profesional breeders was his opinion!

What colour is your lab?
My choclate boy is coming up for a year. He really is a stunner and perfect temprement etc. I'm thinking of getting him eye and hip scored to breed.
Maybe one dayyou can "borrow" him

Well it looks like the deed is done! We found a local breeder that was willing for us to take the dogs out together, and after a a couple of walks they got it on! She seemed happy enough to let him so that put me at ease a bit. So she has had 3 'sessions' in total and we are told that should be ok. Much better than leaving her somewhere though, so im glad we did it this way as it was more natural so to speak.
This was about 3 weeks ago actually and she's not showing any physical signs yet that we've noticed althouhg people who dont see her as much has said she looks bigger. She seems really tired and much less active recently though, and was off her food a bit until a few days ago where she's begging for food more than ever. Weve been giving her a bit of extra dinner too as advised. So, in 6 weeks time we should hopefully have loads of the little buggers! It will be a task thats for sure, but worth it in the end if it solves her problem.
lambchop, shes golden mate.

Yeah the dads golden too mate, but he carries black and chocolate too so its a lottery as to what she'll have i reckon. His last litter with another golden turned out to be 4 golden, 2 black, 2 chocolate.
