By the way, it wasn't Clarkson being slow - it's Sabine, she is proper fast!

Drives the Ring Taxi round there, and if you've ever been, you'll know just how fast she is in that.............

EXACTLY! If Clarkson had that much practice there'd be nowt in it!

BTW, did anyone else think although she is quite fit & can drive a car she has one of the worst personalities in the world ever! Proper up her own arse! She was so pissed off that he'd proven her wrong that he'd managed under 10mins, no congratulations or anything, just kept putting him down.

not fookin half shes fast. on my second lap round there she came past with 3 people in the m5 i was in an evo 5 and i hadnt a clue where i was going so i thought follow her she knows all the lines etc. anyhow i accelerate to catch her but she took the next two corners that fast i never saw her again, she was back at the car park having a drink by the time ide finished.

Clarkson did pretty damn well. Until you get out there yourself you can't comment. Its a proper scary place. He mentioned the 147 corners, but he forgot to say over half of them are blind!!! Experience is what counts (unless your RW )

Clarkson did AMAZINGLY well. Put it this way, Sabine was SO sure he wouldn't get under 10 minutes on his first weekend there - she told him so . He did and top banana to him (very good in a 206bhp car ). She only beat his time by 40s or so, which considering her 15000 lap experience to his 20 or so didn't impress me as much as him getting under 10min.

However, I think she was just taking the piss out of his refusal to accept that she might know which is the best line , hence telling him he was basically a shit driver . Obviously he has no natural talent (and he is the first to admit it ) - try getting in the car with someone who has a natural ability for the place . I was in the RWs TME Evo VI when he did his 8.12.66s - his first ever weekend there .

You have to remember that Clarkson looks ULTRA good on the TG test track, as he spends hours hooning around and they obviously cut out any "incidents" .

Although he has been there before it was 2 years ago!!!
He was prpoer having it and TBH although I had no trouble blitzing him a few times, he was no slouch!!!
I reckon in a better set up car, he would have been a lot better. I have never seen such a lollopping boat go round there

Incidentally, the guy in the Z3 Coupe is Dave from the Norfolk group - his son Nath posts on here as well .

The car was repaired for Ł2k (mates rates ), so not as bad as it looked . It is the same guy that had the Z3 on hand controls last time at Bedford as well . Dave is a complete petrol head with a Nissan 350Z, 300Z, and Focus RS as well . A very and brave man .

There was one shot of my car going round, but if you blinked you missed it, as it was taken through the fence .

Shut it Stage 1 boy, thats the last time I give you a lap, and you owe me a few now even though I know you're own car will never actually make the journey!!

I'm actually not bad round the 'Ring (oo err), have been 4 times, am just trying to actually learn the place, which is coming together nicely thanks.

Rick,
Someone timed me once at around 9.30 four up, but you have to remember it takes a minimum of 50 laps to just get an idea of where the place goes. I have only now just done 100 laps.

The joy of the place is learning a little bit more each time - with a 147 corners you always come away with an improved line for at least one of them... .

Who was it that got a sneaky timing of you mike

And the ring aint really explained in times unless you want to scare/piss everyone off RW style - which included overtakeing sabine when she was outin a friend BMW M5 LOL

Hmmm They can't all the THAT bad as one of the Autocar test drivers has won or come in the top 3 of the Autocar Sideways Challenge (which includes Tiff Needell, various pro rally/race drivers) for the last several years?

Mike, without sounding like a raging homo, you're pretty quick round there (even though you keep 'forgetting' to take me round of late ) and would imagine you put in pretty swift times. I timed one of my Dad's laps on our second visit when we didn't even know what was coming up and he did pretty much 9 mins flat, I would imagine thats now vastly improved, I have never timed my own but would like to have a rough idea, especially as I have actually took the trouble of doing some research to learn it, unlike my Dad!!

The hottest lap I have ever been able to do was with Phil Sherwin in the car, it was at the very end of the day (7.15) - no traffic and we got a nice run up over the big dip . Felt like it was over in about 1m 36s .
