Default FAO Those that have used Nicotene Patches - Updated

2 Questions:

1) do I wear the patch or take it off in the gym and try to stick it back on again?

2) Can I wear the patch in the shower?

Replacing them all the time is gonna become an expensive sport!

How long after quitting the fags did anyone stop feeling shite and start to enjoy the benefits?

I don't agree with the patches, the actual physical addiction to nicotine is very slight, it's the mental addiction which is the worst. There's a book called Allen Carr's Easyway to stop smoking, I highly recommend you read it.

ive tried them before and they work well...i dont think you will be able to reuse them..i took mine off for a shower and they wouldnt go back on..unless i wa using cheap 1s..they were from the doctors for free..in the gym i would think they will lift off your skin with the sweat...whatever you do dont have a fag with 1 on unless you like the spaced out feeling! lol..i couldnt say when you will feel tyhe benefits as i gave up after 2 weeks when a few things started getting on top of me

when you first put them on they will itch for a good few minutes, takes about an hour to kick in, then will be fine all day. I have a shower in the morning and then put the patch on, leave it on all day and take it off before I go to bed. I was advised not to wear them whilst sleeping as it can give you fucked up dreams etc... try and get some of the nicotine mints to suck on if you get a craving. They taste horrible and will make you sick if you have a fag a short time afterwards but its all to help

i've been stopped nearly four months now and used nicotine patches (24hr ones). you do have some weird dreams on them but better for you if you usually smoke as soon as you wake. they helped a lot, could'nt have done it without them. on gym days stick them on top of your shoulders instead of your arms then they are less likely to come off. you can shower with them on if you are carefull. i've finished the course now and the cravings are a lot less frequent and don't last very long. first couple of weeks are the hardest, starts to get easier after that. just take it a day at a time and stick with it.

i found the patches crap tbh

they dont stay on when your working due to you sweat, even on the arms it only takes a little bit for themt o start to lift, i even smoked on them and there was no difference

id go to the docs and ask them you want to try the tablets, i started hem 3 days ago and have already cut down, as what they do is block the senses in your nerves or brain carnt remember which, that when you have a fag you dont feellike you need it if you get me, theres no satsifaction of having one, proper weird but they seem to be working, you get 14 days in a pack, little tablets start off with 1 day and then move onto 2 a day, but you have to plan to quit so say on day 8 or 10 at themax while on them thats when you want to quit and just keep taking them

2 of my friends have usedthese and they quit on day 8 and have never looked back, so hopefully these will work for me as ive already cut down a lot

tablets care called champix and only available from docs

Default how i gave up!!!!!!!!

4 years ago i had a very bad cold-coughing snorting and spluttering etc-
while driving home from belvior castle i approached the a 52 T junction at redmile and started coughing bad due to the flue and smoking!!-i must have passed out !!!!
when i woke up!!!! i was in a ditch on the A 52!!! at redmile,
for those that dont know the A 52 is mega busy with 8 wheelers lorrys etc etc between notts and grantham---------
never had a cig since---------no patches at all-nothing!! shook me up big time!!!!
car was ok as was i cost Ł200 to get lifted out of the ditch.
i was f--------------ing lucky as anyone from notts who knows that road--------
never had a cig since-saved a fortune and the house etc smell great again
im not against smokers i think we should all do what we want and not be forced into anything -------very liberal bordering on anarchy!!!!!!!!!!!-lol
good luck if you give up-just keep busy to keep your mind of it and have a few early nights-
if you get heartburn as many of you will -see your GP he can prescribe some shit hot
tablets----------------

hiya mate, i have used these patches once a year ago, and quit for a year and im on them as we speak, you take them off at night to stop having trippy dreams and leave them on during the day, showering sports etc etc.
To get the best stick out of them rub the patch whist its still in the packet so the glue gets nice and warm, then just stick it on your arm, chest etc. I recommend not touching the glue bit as they dont stick too well at the edges as they are.
Im on the patches and 1mg lozenges, been quit for 3 or 4 weeks now so all is going well!
They are awesome things and really help with the cravings, you still need will power of course but the need to smoke is pretty much diminished, you feel like you have just had one all day long, then when i get a super craving i use the lozenges!
Good luck!!!

Default Hard Going Today!!

Got thru yest without smoking and didn't feel too bad.

Today however I feel like I have the flu and the urge to smoke is terrible!!

I've been to Boots and got some lozenges to use with the patches but they taste fucking horrible! They do have 1 benefit that they are making me feel slightly stoned, something else I gave up on New years.

Anyone else battling through and struggling today?

I used Zyban about 4 years ago to give up.

Used them for 2 weeks, and nevr touched a cigarette since. No cravings, nothing.

My wife is currently trying the gum and patches and she reports heartburn and cravings...

yes mate eating lots is normal, if you find yourself putting on weight then make yourself busy as your brain wants something for your hands to do, so eating is the next best thing....
Got my next appointment with the doc tommorrow, been quit for a good month now!

Good luck mate!

Got thru 5th day today, second back at work and its getting easier. Using lozenges as well as patches when its really bad, but to be fair each day seems easier .

Just got to keep my eye on the eating to make sure it doesn't get silly.

How long after quitting do you go a day without thinking about it? On way home from work last night I opened the window a bit when I got in the car as usual, then realised I don't have to be cold on the way home tonight!

You'll never really stop thinking about them. There'll always be times and situations it's just the longer you're off them the easier it is to cope.
