Default Roller Shutter Garage Doors

As the title really.

New garage door required and to save space and have a wider opening to the garage, I'm looking at fitting a roller-shutter.

The door opening is 7'6" wide and I can get a rollershuter for 7'8" wide (perfect for the opening) for not much money at all

But how secure are they? Ease of installation?

Only as secure as the locking mechanism.

There's the first flaw in the plan.

The easier it is to install the easier it is to break in to.

The rollers and track have different levels of security, the more you pay the more secure it will be.

Not many can resist a 4 x 4 pulling with a chain attached to the shutter.

I am aware how easy some are to break into - but I was thinking more along the lines of industrial metal door I have come accross

Removable barriers that lock into the ground are a good way to stop a ram raid or anyone stealing the car inside the garage.

The only one ive got mate, just a case of drilling either side of the door then use a bolt lock going into the wall/side of garage . And as for Ease of installation i had mine fitted by rhino buildings as you have to LOAD the springs which is a pain in the arse if you never done it, they charged Ł50 a door

No a very good pic but here you go

Ahhh fair play, I'm guessing they are very secure for a plastic door (having said that, it will probably be more secure than a fibreglass up/over standard door)

stick a motion sensor alarm inside with contacts on the doors for better protection. unless your keeping the crown jewels in there it should be safe enough.

That has been thought about too - Looking into a reasonably priced alarm system for the garage

I have an electric one on my garage and from the outside it looks like this:

Its steel and there is nothing to grab hold of externally so the only way through is to Ram it. Internally it looks like:

You can see that the fixings/runners are on the inside edge of the wall and are well held in place. They overlap/hold the door by quite a bit too so you would have to really fold it in for it to come away. Not too bad for me as its at the end of my garden with the only access down the side of the house but if your door opened onto the street I would be wary.

From this pic you can just about see how the curtain is hidden behind the wall:

I've just looked on my computer and I dont have any close up pics, only these old ones from the build etc but I can take some if you want. Price wise it wasn't cheap @ Ł1k odd but it was only that much as I paid for an internal motor. The motor is in the beam that the curtain rolls onto.

I do have a spare of everything apart from the curtain itself if your after a 4m door? Mind you your hell of a drive away.

Just re-read you post and its too wide. I think the beam could be chopped down to size though.

these continental rollor doors are not the most secure if you have a proper roller shutter they are very secure it is pretty hard to get all the way through as i am a fitter and repair them when forklifts etc run into them give my firm a call www.accessgroupuk.co.uk
