Tim

thanks for posting up that lot. The TREK 600 with the Airwolf kit is awsome...

Looking at the Ripmax Minicopters now, they do three version all the same price to I presume they are just different bodies / colours and they wil all fly the same.

Good advice on getting a simulator to, that way I can have as many virtual crashes as I like and if it saves me one real crash then I guess it's paid for itself.

cheers

ive got a walkera 4#3b heli, not quite a proper heli as it comes RTF but you can get full spares for it, the thing is tiny - thats why i got it so i can use it sat on the couch lol

its a absolute fucker to fly, still not lernt it yet and doubt i ever will cos i just seem to get nowhere with it and then go off using it,

Default My Heli !!!!

A few images of my Heli.

I was trained by a guy Dave Fisher, that does one on one heli training.
your radio is connected to his radio by a buddy lead, at the sign of trouble Dave at a flick of his switch, takes control and brings the heli safely in control and down.
He is always a 100 steps ahead of you and even very close to the ground he can save the day. He also builds services and repairs, the heli was painted by him , it was his show flying heli.

They are great fun to fly once mastered.

yes really

If you know about flying helos you will know that a significant part of the skill comes from reacting automatically to the feedback you get from the controls, the feel of the helo in the air (ie changes of inertia indicating changes), visual movement inputs, instruments etc

You have none of that on an RC helo. You are truley dependant on reacting to what you can see. Good RC helo pilots learn to anticipate the changes far better than a real pilot would need to, as the effects of wind and conditions are proportionality much greater on a model RC helo.

I'll let you know in a couple of weeks

JohnnyB the flight sim I bought isn't a 'real' one but I hope it will get me the basics so I don't plant my real one too many times...

on more thing, if you built your heli you self get a pro to set it up, heli based model shops will set it up.

once they are setup they will fly just as the sim

Thats what I got. It's just like the normal radio gear with a USB cable into yourcomputer with the simulator software loaded on it.

johnnyB my first helo will be an RTF kit but if I build my second one I will certainly be getting it trimed up by a pro...

The Optima was phasing out when I started with the Lazer ZX.. Although I started racing with a Cat XLS

My last car was a Mid-Optima Turbo. I regularly raced against, and beat occasionally, Schumacer Cats but then rich daddies racing vicariously through their sons bought all the latest gear and I slowly went backwards down the grid and then I discovered beer and girls and that was the end of it..

I gave up in '88 or '89 when I left school. Was a good laugh, I even had a Escort Cosworth shell for the on road winter season.
