Default nurberg ring, travel question?

hi. im in the process of sorting out prices for me & few mates to go to the ring at around may/june time,

which route do most take? ive been on http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/

but thats a bloody long way for us. has anyone ever driven through the netherlands to get there? as we can get a ferry to amsterdam & go from there. rather than drive to dover, calais then to nurberg.

all help will be much appreciated.

cheers nic

hull to rotterdam a few beers on boat not 2 many mind may have to blow in the bag next morning

steady drive down to cologne have a night on the town and see some dancing girls

up bright and early of down to adenau takes about 1 hour get checked in to the hotel and then a 5 minute drive up to the ring

just check the times the rings going to be open for your trip and plan accordingly as they can shut it at the drop of a hat if some ones makes a mess of it

From Tyne and Wear you will want to take the A1 down to the M62 and then take that to Hull and jump the ferry to Rotterdam.

From Rotterdam you only take 3 motorways (Follow the signs to Venlo and then you are at the German border there and then follow Koln for a bit but don't turn off untill you see the signs for Nurburgring.).

Easy to do and takes 3 hours from Roterdam if you drive steady, if you get your toe down you can do it in about 2.5 hours

Enjoy

I was going over on the first dates you mentioned but the track isn't open then aparantly due to the ADAC 24 Heur race So I'm going over on the Saturday 30th May Arrive on Sunday 31st) from Hull and then getting the ferry back on Tuesday 2nd June (Arrive Wednesday 3rd) if you want to go at that time, be a little bit of road trip

Price wise, looking at Ł200 return for the ferry (if you book online when P&O have special offers on), otherwise Ł300 for the ferry.

Hotel - Anywhere from €30 a night - but bear in mind the shit exchange rate means it will be pretty expensive this year

Track laps - they were €16 a lap last time, but the more you buy the cheaper they get, obviously the exhange rate plays a big part of this too

Fuel - as much as your car consumes, petrol on the continent, depending where you buy it, can be as much as 20p a litre cheaper than ours so its worth brimming here and then doing the trip on a tank if you one

Food wise, budget about €25 a night for a good meal and a couple of drinks - the food out there is amazing - there are some fantastic restraunts and the service is generally good too

I can't wait to take the 540 Sport for a few laps - should be fun with the flappy paddle shifter

And yes you can get a ferry from Hull to Rotterdam - they go every night and depart Hull at 2100 with alst boarding at 1930, arrives in Rotterdam at 0845 local time, and you are usually off and rolling by 0930

Same times coming back too - to make things nice and easy

Check opening times here.

http://bridgetogantry.com/index.php?...2009&Itemid=72

Though I have always hankered to go to the 24hr race then stay on a few days and do some track time. Could be better than Le Mans.

Even if you don't do 15 laps, you can always sell the tickets on to people in the car park afterwards. Or keep them for the next trip (there's always another trip!) so long as its in the same calendar year.

Be great if you guys could join the rest of us when we're all going over. Far better with a load of people you know - better social and more support if you ever need it.

Pass, was going to wait for a confirmed 2009 calendar just to be on the safe side. Be a bit pants to book then find the place closed!

19th April sounds early to me though....

I reckon the weekends we talked about in the other post were best:

Sat 25th - Weds 29th April:

Sat - 5.30-7.30
Sun - 8-7.30
Mon - 1-7.30
Tues - 8-5
Weds - 8-5

Or

Friday May 15th : 14:15-19:30
Saturday May 16th : 09:15 - 19:30
Sunday May 17th : 09:15 - 19:30
Monday May 18th : 13:00 - 19:30

Was one of those two as best options that we came up with, that optimise Ring opening times.

For entirely selfish reasons, like I dont work fridays so would only have to book one day off work, I reckon that the may one looks best.

Also two full days on the ring would rock and onday morning we could go break some more jeeps, lol

That 2nd weekend, mid May works well for me too. Weather should be good, and no German holidays that weekend either so poss slightly quieter than last year which is a bonus.

We're going for best opening hours really so Fri May 15th to Mon May 18th works best for that. Also avoids all German hols and misses our own Bank Hols as well, meaning things should be quieter over there.

Most of us travel Dover to Dunkirk via Norfolk Line as it's about Ł40 total for the ferry. Bargain.

Some come down from up North so do the Hull - Rotterdam route and meet us there.

Names I know are keen are:

Si B
Sketch
Chip
Evo
Cossie Helen
Dave Yum
Ginge
Jim Galbally
Cos 47 and Dorset group
Rick
Mad Evo 4
Will@ MSD

etc etc.

Usually get a huge crowd from here all go at the same time, just waiting for someone to make the final date decision and get booking!

Si, will talk to you after mallory then mate about getting it booked, I think lawrie and helen will still want you to book them rooms (twin for lawrie and his dad, double for dave and helen) and I'll want a single room too, and I expect Jim will want a single room.
Obviously any others can just book their own, as not fair on you to book for too many people.

Properly looking forward to it, should be great as usual

I would do the other dates but my annual leave and rest day pattern has fallen perfect for the end of may/beginning of june, I would do April but I have no rest days around then and it would mean using my daily leave for 4 days

To be fair, what many people forget is that 1 lap of the Nurburgring puts as much stress on your vehicles components - Engine, Brakes, Transmission, Tyres etc, as a 30 min session at say Donnington or Croft

6 or 8 laps is plenty for a first trip, rememebr its one of the most intimidating driving experiences there is, so you won't be out there lap after lap like a trackday!
