LOL don't diss lol Na i don't like the 182 but i got for 6k so i couldn't complain. I'm not going for what the crowd wants. I genuinely like Ford RS cars and the new one is something i'd be interested in but i can't justify that money for what it is.

Official Ford Press Release
BRENTWOOD, Essex, 15 December, 2008 Ford's fastest-ever European production car, the 2009 Focus RS, will be priced from Ł24,995 when it goes on sale in the UK in March.
The new Focus RS is the first Ford to wear the famous Rallye Sport badge since the first-generation Focus RS was launched seven years ago, and the 22nd since 1970.
RS denotes a distinctive blend of high performance, road-holding, refinement, safety and value for money, and reflects a proud tradition of successful motor sports involvement that continues to the present day.
Under the bonnet of the Ford Focus RS is a turbocharged 2.5-litre, five-cylinder Duratec petrol engine, with a confirmed 305PS and 440Nm peak torque. Features include unique camshafts and a revised cylinder head and gasket, intake and manifold system.
Front-wheel-driven through a six-speed transmission, the Focus RS accelerates from 0-62mph in under six seconds and has a targeted top speed of over 160mph.
A class-leading balance of traction, sports handling and performance is achieved through the combination of a Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing limited-slip differential and innovative RevoKnuckle front-suspension system.
These features are complemented by a wider track, enhanced drive-shafts and rear anti-roll bar, revised springs and dampers and retuned steering, while a specially developed version of Ford's Electronic Stability Programme (ESP) with Traction Assist (TA) provides added assurance.
Uprated disc brakes – 336mm ventilated front and 300mm rear – combine with an anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD) and Emergency Brake Assist (EBA) to supply a reassuringly high degree of stopping power.
Taking its place as the top-of-the-range Focus, the RS will be immediately distinguishable on the road, with its unique bonnet, front bumper and side skirts. Also unique to the model are its 19-inch alloy wheels, shod with 235/35 tyres.
The rear twin-bladed spoiler - the continuation of an RS tradition – and the power/heated door mirrors are also distinctive, with their high-gloss black finish.
Xenon headlights with automatic levelling and jet-wash are provided, with LED lights at the rear. Dual chrome tailpipes add a further sporting dash.
A Quickclear heated windscreen is fitted, and privacy glass for the rear. A Ford Easy Fill fuelling system removes any risk of costly mis-fuelling errors at the pump.
The driver and front passenger benefit from unique Recaro sports seats, with side bolsters trimmed to match the colour of the car – green for Ultimate Green models, blue for those finished in Performance Blue or Frozen White. Rear passengers are comfortably accommodated in a sculpted Recaro-style seat.
A manual air-conditioning system is provided, and in-car entertainment in the form of a Sony radio and six-disc CD player with DAB. A Ford Power button allows for keyless engine ignition, and a Thatcham Category 1 alarm is standard.
A Ł750 Luxury Pack includes the options of Dual-Zone Electronic Automatic Temperature Control (DEATC) air-conditioning; automatic headlights; rain-sensor wipers; auto-dim rear-view mirror; rear parking-distance sensors; tyre deflation-detection; and a Ford Key-Free system. The Ł1,500 version of the Luxury Pack adds in a Touchscreen DVD Navigation System, with seven-inch touch-screen.
Other optional extras include partially leather-trimmed seats at Ł500 and, for Ł200, BluetoothŽ hands-free phone connectivity and USB port. Specifying a metallic version of the Performance Blue paintwork costs Ł395, while a Tri-Coat Metallic Ultimate Green finish carries a Ł695 price tag.
The standard price of the flagship Focus RS compares with Ł20,408 for the ST3, the existing top-of-the-range Focus.

Please don't say it is, I might be looking out for one in the future but deffo when it's second hand and circa 15k, I mist admit a white one with black alloys would be beautiful!

They must have tested it being 4WD at some point and thought there was little or no advantage in putting the 4WD system in rather than keeping it FWD, saving weight, transmission loss and money to the consumer.
By the way whilst at the local Ford dealership yesterday ordering parts was chatting to one of the sales reps about he new RS and he said that they are flying out the doors without even having a set price yet. Seems your moaning about 4WD is a bit irrelevant then as apparently they're selling well quick.

they did mate they had them both at the test track the whole development team drove both and all agreed the 4wd was fuckin borein in comparison and it handles the whole 300 bhp so why the need for it? because some cossie drivers know better er yeah ok we,ll make it 4wd tecnology advancement but thats not apreciated by the drivers of 20 year old cars is it

I think everyone's going to be very surprised with how well this new FWD setup copes with the power, the monster torque... and in the wet, too!
Get all notions of previous FWD cars you may have driven out of your head, and wait until you drive or at least passenger in one.

I personally don't know how any one on here can slag off a car they haven't driven, ( and lets be honest for probably 50% on passionford )probably WILL never drive until its a 20 year old has being, THEN, it will be the best car on the road to the people who are slagging it off now, or is it the people who can't afford it brand new that are slagging it off, i'll be honest, i'm quite happy with my mk1 Focus RS, LOVE IT, the mk2 has yet to prove itself, and, like myself, any one with RS blood in their veins is going to LOVE IT, at the moment i can't afford a brand new Focus RS ( brand new house and everything that goes with it is something to do with it ) but no doubt i will buy one probably in a couple of years, it doesn't matter if it ain't got 4 wheel drive or 350 bhp as std, if you're anything like me and you see an RS on the road on the very rare occassion they still stick out like a sore thumb from the rest of the shit on the roads, i just think its a good thing FORD have built a new RS car and are keeping the RS badge alive, because lets face it, the RS badge is a dying breed, so, lets all stop hoping its going to be a modern cosworth ( CUS IT AIN'T )and let the next generation focus RS prove itself in its own right next year and hope it keeps the RS legend alive........

The point is being FWD means a LOT of people will lose interest in it, yes it might be a great car, but it will ALWAYS be limited by being FWD. It is the modern day take on the RS Turbo, nothing more nothing less. Can you ever have seen the Cosworth family becoming and staying the legends they are if they were not RWD and 4x4?

Oh for fucks sake will some of you get off the bore train of 4wd!
S1 RS turbo, S2, Fiesta RS turbo, RS1800, RS2000 and Focus RS among others were not 4wd/awd. Do you forget that or what? Stop comparing it to an Escort Cosworth.
It's not 4wd now, wasn't before the press conference and won't be later on so get over it. If you don't want to pay Ł25k then buy a second hand Evo or Scooby but they are common as muck and this IMO will be special and have more road presence.
Honestly, anyone would think they announced an RS Cosworth Focus then said it would be fwd the way people are going on.
Stu@MSD said once that most people who post shit about the M5/vanos were people who couldn't afford one and I susspect the same applies with the new Focus RS, especially when the car isn't even out yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's about 5k more than the last one 5+ years ago so are you saying you expect 4wd for that?
Westlife outsold most but they won't be remembered in great detail like car enthusiasts recall the RS models and they won't be played over an over like top rock bands decades on! Quality lasts but he's just saying initial interest/sales is very good.
Own goal? Why the last one wasn't an neither were most of the others. People loved and still love the current Focus RS. Sure lots of people on here would crave for a 4WD focus RS so they can tune its balls off but doesn't mean it won't be good. Don't see many people saying the last one was shit or RS turbos.

I think the issue here is that for a lot of people like myself who expressed an initial interest in the car, because its not 4x4 the interest has waned mine did and I have now decided to go Astra VXR (don't laugh
) route and keep 10K in the bank, I love RS's and will keep my Escort Cossie in the garage because the appeal of the new RS is not great enough to make me part with the cash.
Having said that I will probably look at getting one for the wife, in a couple of years to replace her Clio 197.

And yes, the driver was absolutly putting the pedal to the metal. He was fine-tuning the RS's suspension!
(How I enjoyed my internship at Ford Lommel Proving Grounds!)
Conclusion: the new RS is definatly name-worthy and pretty much everything it should have be
