4x4 mt75 gearboxes realistically how week?
whats the most bhp people have run without banging one.. with the odd launch, no dounuts or track days just avarage fast driving? and for how long.. is a t38 a good turbo to use with one.... as its less harsh than a t34?
just wondering what bhp i should run in my escort, ive got full in car 2 stage adjustable boost so i can go anywhere from 300bhp to 440bhp with my engine build.
cheers
weak... lol bad typing

Think on stage 3 it depends what other work has been done like head work i.e polished and porting etc, injectors, which will make a bit of difference on power outputs tbh think the gearbox will last to about 400bhp just depends how you drive,if your gonna lauch it hard ad give it a week tops lol

my own 4b runs 380bhp and has a shot peened box by gordon spooner ,i dont launch the car to be honest and let it buildup a bit before giving it some .Is shotpeening the answer for a good stage 3,and what kinda power do you need to be running before you have to go to a bara box?

shot peening can make a massive difference if done properly but most people who do shot peening dont really do it properly tbh. if i can find someone to take apart and rebuild my box im going to shot peen and superfinish my gears

best 4x4 box i've ever had and gotta remember that car was used on track also by its original owner & he busted endless gearboxs before he had that 1 rebuilt and shot peened

your pretty much spot on there, i do shot peening for a living. F1, oil industy and aerospace though so proper shot peening.
not sure i agree with brittleness, by shot peening you are reducing residual stress to the surface by applying compressive stress which increases fatigue resistance and stops cracking etc. the surface finish you end up with is dependant on the intensity and shot size, i sometimes batter things to make the surface finish rougher.

i hope i am pretty close to the mark as i have worked in aerospace for the last 11 years, lol
with hardness comes brittleness, i have seen components that have cracked off the surface effected by the peening
p.s. just out of interest, who do you work for, we currently use a company in Derby who shall remain nameless who are shite!
