Default 306 d turbos??? what MPG??!

i think to replace my wrote off 16v im going to go sensible and get something that will be reliable look relatively new and be able to travel the country in search of filthy women....

anyways life story over....

can you tune the 306tds up to 110ish bhp or somewhere near and what sort of costs?? (think they low 90s before dunno on torque?)

or can anyone suggest something else sensible to have thats still got half an ounce of style about it???

110bhp no probs! Mine is puting out this power atm! Will give a few Gti's a run for there money!

Stu sorted the fueling and boost out very reasonable!

I fitted a spax Suspension kit and had it on track last saturday at knockhill and the handeling is simply superb! Through the tight bends and chicanes it was carrying more speed than a lot of well respected cars. times were only 4 seconds a lap down on some claimed 300bhp cars!

Great Little cars IMO!

GTi 6 Rear axle and Front brakes are being fitted to it as we speak! Cant wait to see how it transforms the car!

TBH black smoke aint bad! A case of keeping on top of the filters and regular cleaning of the air filter!

Melv,
A mechanical tune, gives the 92bhp around 110 - 115bhp and will cost ya Ł250 at retail price.

Mot smoke test part of the job to ensure legality, fuel economy shouldnt really be much different at all, may even be better.

All the non HDi models are mechanical, or put another way, all teh 1.9 models. Whats up with 80k?

Turbos are similar money to petrol ones.

As Stu says mate, 80k is barely run-in

I'm going in for the boost/fuel upgrade with Stu in January & mines on 127k As long as it's in good mechanical order, everything will be fine

Well done on the Purchase Melv I'm sure you won't be dissapointed but remember, they live & die by regular servicing! They weigh approx 1,180kg IIRC.

Adam,
306's don't rust either, a combination of galvanised body & alot of plastic panels see to that unless of course there's badly repaired accident damage but that's the same with any car.

yeah i think id seen in the handbook about 1130 kg?? fookin ridiculous!! lol heavy bastids!!! never realised they were that heavy!!

ah well at least ive got my lil 840kg fiesta turbo for fun!! (and so i dont feel so much of a ford traitor! )

ive just insured it aswell - same premium as my 16v as im on minimum premium. bit of an arse - but then again it is worth 3.5 times more!!

what size tyres they supposed to have on? as mine dont seem right - seem too big for the rims (theyre 195 60s I think)

oh and its got a factory fitted clarion CD changer and stuff - im well happy with it!! just hope i get faultless running and mega mpg now!!

it all feels tight inside, clutch is pretty heavy gear box feels clunk click new style... instead of the spoon in pudding fwd ford shift!! all good!!!! lol

it seems to run out and cut fuel before the redline?? is this normal?? have i got alot of getting used to driving a TD??

anyone know whats involed in adjusting the handbrake as it needs a tweak
oh and rev counter is intermittant!! what do they run off??

Melv Glad you got what you were looking for

Ive got the same problem with my Rev counter(its completely packed in), must be a common fault!
Cant help on the redline question as am driving by engine note/power band & feel of car.

I see 450miles & upwards to a tank, Im not 1 for driving with economy in mind though and do tend to drive on boost the majority of the time!

Tyres I believe were 185/60

Yep, wait till the fuel light comes on & then brim it & work it out from there. The fuel guages have a mind of their own, I thought the same thing in mine (Shitroen ZX Volcane TD) but I'm averaging about 48mpg with a mix of dual carriageway/town work & on a motorway run at 80-ish I get about 55mpg

BTW, the ZX is about 50kg lighter than the 306 so it might not be quite as good as that but very close if it's well maintained

lol keep us informed!! maybe we need a 306 room on here lol

insurance assessors coming out today to write off my fiesta so hopefully he give me a good price - take some of the dent out of this purchase!

i filled it from the light been on right to the top - it came out of some vent and went on the rear tyre so lost half a mile there lol!

ill see how it goes but the gauge does seem dodgy as it was hardly even moving up till yesterday!!
ah well its a newer car, its goes average, it looks good, feels solid just gotta get the mpg out of it now to make me a happy customer!!

ah couple other things aswell... rev counter is well buggin me - what you reckons up with it??? also have yours got black plastic around the B pillar on the door? as mine hasnt - think i want them back but dunno how much it cost.
hey hey im getting interested in doctor diesels dirty invention!! WTF is going on here!?!!!

There should be a plastic cowling (mine is a light cream clolor)where we would stick a boost guage on the likes of a Nomad A pillar?

Rhys your right about the filters etc! Just had mine done and about to do a nice long trip today will take note of fuel used!

Mines doing crap ish MPG at the mo too - air filters black - got an induction kit on its way - gonna change derv filter too. Currently getting 100miles per Ł10.

Only had it 6 weeks - done 2500miles in it - only using it as my daily driver but couldnt resist the modding temptation....get it lowered by the way - handles like a go-kart!!!

If you're that dissapointed by the position of the needle on the fuel gauge, go round a tight left hand corner.......you'll find you magically have more diesel in the tank French cars, don't ya just love 'em!

lmao!!!

mind you fuel gauge is lot better than my mk2 fiesta zvht... you know when youve running out fo fuel cos the car stutters and backfires on quarter of a tank!!

i mean on the outside of the door - bit like you get on xr2is etc but theyre painted. its like a plastic sheet thats stuck onto the door - mine doesnt have them and it makes the car look different.

how much are the filters and things?? easy enough to change??
is it worth K&N panel filtering?? dont want to fook up my mpg like but anything thats worth doing may aswell give it a tweak!

that blue one looks nice that!!

oh yeah thats another point.... can I buy some ford wheels and fit them with spacers or something or is it other way round on the offsets?? I dont want to waste money buying pug only wheels when i could use them on my other car possibly.

Very true about the fuel gauge......mind of its own!! One minute qtr tank - next minute half way between the 1/4 & 1/2 - one minute you think - shit that MPG aint good - next minute you think...yeah it is!

I believe Ford wheels will fit but with spacers - stud pattern is the same - I think the offset for a pug is about ET18/25 - reckon you may need 10mm spacers!

Filters piece of cake to change - I'll let you know about the air filter & differences after I've fitted mine. In theory it should have a good induction noise because of the turbo!!

Other faults include....a tendancy to knock it tits off on the front end suspension - usually anti-roll bar drop links, & if the rear clunks its the rear bushes. Changed all mine this weekend at the same time as lowering it!

StickerPaul.....new personalised number plate on its way fresh from the DVLA!

Pattozs - Cheers mate
