If you're worried about fuel economy don't buy a performance car.

I would guess an RS6 would be even worse on juice, probably looking at 15mpg average with some really low single figures if you gun it. A few people over on Scoobynet have had them and the running costs they have mentioned have been crazy high.

Cheers,
Grant

Ive got an RS4 B5 model. I have averaged about 22-23 for the last 10,000 miles. Its about 450 horses too. Excellent car. Chop your escort in for one allday long. The RS4 is in a different league.

a mate has one of the twin turbo v8 saloons, its a rs4 i think, cost nearly 50 grand from chester audi, and hardly drives it cos the seats give him back ache and they are the buffalo hide upgrade, so he drives his transit connect about,he got a price last year to sell it and it was about 20 grand less than what he paid for it, nice cars but the depreciation is shocking.
if i spent 50k on a car i would want it to be worth 50k in six months time not 38k

Its not an RS4 if its a V8 twin turbo. The B5 RS4 is a 2.7 V6 Twin Turbo and the B7 RS4 is a normally aspirated V8. The RS6 was V8 Twin Turbo so maybe its one of those.

£12K drop in the last 6 months on one of these is probably a good deal!

.....from what I've read, the Audi would probably cost less on general upkeep than your Escort does. However, if something does go wrong, then its gonna be 4 figure bills minimum. The autobox in the RS6 isn't meant to enjoy uprated power, even a re-map gives bother and a replacement is going to be mega money. There is also a known problem with the suspension (think its called DRC - Dynamic Ride Control), however, a set of Bilstein Coilovers will cure this once and for all so thats a one off payment that I'm guessing a lot of them will have had now.

To be honest, if you were to add up the running costs that your Escort has throughout a year... then it might be less scary... however, you really need to have a few grand sitting there if/when something does go wrong on the Audi.

Cheers,
Grant

tbh i dunno much about audis, i do know that the very nice man in the silver estate with the dealers name down the side kept coming out to it,on one occasion he left the car and went to work on a fizzy 50, them things kinda howl like a banshee going up the road,if they are 400 bhp i would rather have my evo uprated for a few grand than blow big cash on a heavy depreciating audi

http://bbs.scoobynet.com/other-marqu...ning-cost.html

Thats one of the threads over on Scoobynet when someone asked about the RS6... seems like the gearbox is a 5 figure pricetag, however, I'm guessing thats brand new from Audi, with it being replaced at an Audi Main Dealer.

I love the look of them, these ones look awesome and according to a couple of the owners, the RS6 picks up speed at a comical rate.. at any start speed, it will fire into the 155 limiter with ease.

Cheers,
Grant

I had a 4.2 V8 s6 and using it daily I got around 18-22mpg driving it carefully. On a run it could just about do 30+ with the cruise control on and no traffic. I would expect an RS6 to be similar off boost.

It has a huge fuel tank and was costing me £85 to fill up back when petrol was cheap Every time I filled up the cashiers would be asking me what car could take that much fuel!

I have a 2000 s6 and its gutsy around town but on the motorway sitting on cruise control at around 77 going to liverpool it averaged between 25-27mpg which isnt to bad for a 4.2 v8.

Its for sale if ur interested

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/730276.htm

Decent performance without worring about the unrelaible gearbox or suspension (drc) on the rs6.

If I drive my 8L S3 without a care about fuel, I average 14-17mpg. Looking at a remap which should take it up to 250bhp

Love my S3 though to bits
