Default plate change

I have a plate i bought last year and need to get it on the car .

Now reading the info given , i need to go to the DVLA with all my documents so they can change the details and the tax disc,, but i cant drive it there on the new plates as that is ilegal, so do i need to take the new plates allong and change em there ????
Or can i get em changed when i return home as idealy i would like to send the wife?
I cant see her changing the plates in the car park..

How dose it work ,,,, ???????

think i will have to go over myself, but its the waiting around that pisses me off, i could go in the van , but if i send our lass she will be in the car and i presume would need to change the plates in the car park

i dont think you will tbh, you need to watch out for the wheel clampers over there aswell they are on the ball and there is nowhere to park. I got me mate to take me over for that reason

you can drive home on the other plates , then swap them when you get home , if you get stopped you will have paperwork to hand to prove change over has just took place
it would have to be a really unrealistic copper to do you for this if you were unlucky enough to get stopped
ive swapped plates on and off my cars for years and never swaped plates at dvla office
sometimes put them on before i go

which would make sense about the letter you get so you can get the new plates made up

Plus your insurance would stil be for the old reg
