Ok people, so here's a question it's getting to the point where i've got the cash to buy the car i've always wanted, but now i can't decide. Sierra Saph Cossie or Mk1 Escort RS?
I love both these cars and they're both around the 4k mark for a decent one. So any ideas, opinions or pros and cons would be appreciated!

well, imo the saffs are a little more expensive than the s1, so you'll get a better s1 for the money.
S1, you'll need to make sure you get a good solid one, but it will keep it's value if you do and keep it clean, parts are hard to get hold of and can be expensive. But in the main, cheap to run and insure.
Saff's, bigger car, more power, less rot issues but still subject to tinworm, more expensive to buy, can cost more to fix when it goes wrong.
It really depends what your after, and how you want to use it, the saff could be an everyday car, the S1, well maybe, but wouldn't recomend it.
Either way, you have the perfect time to buy, lots fo bargains to be had., why not buy one, run it for six months, sell up and try the other.

£4k could get you a decent S1 if your lucky, and a reasonable Saff'...
Cossie' will be much dearer to run & insure, and even RS Turbos can soak up money big time.
Good time to buy though, and both give lots of smile per mile![Clap](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/9c-clap.gif)

I always buy decent to start with as i spent years buying ok car';s then spending twice the value making it a decent one.
My advice save up a little more and buy the best, £6k for a Sapphire or £5k for a S1
Be very careful in the mk3 escort department as standard replacement spares for them is astronomical compared to the Sapphire.

They are so very different with one rwd and one fwd, so might be a good idea to blag a drive in each first just incase you don't like a particular one, I have a 2wd sapph, but actually prefer fwd!!
As said I would allow a hefty amount for anything that crops up, and do a complete mega service as soon as you do buy the cam belt in particular.

agree with above posts about a 4k saff being a little ropey.
Our chairman is selling his S1 which was concoursed last couple of years and it is around your budget.
Check on the cleveland group web site under my siggy , its on there

series 1 just for the look, wish I had could afford another, I've had to settle for a turbo cabriolet, although it does put a smile on my face
I think there all money pits, and imo are best as a second car
