Default 2l Zetec and IB5 clutch/gearbox problem

Hiya,

Question on behalf of Luke89RS

He's got a problem with his 2.0litre Zetec Mk3 Fiesta...

When he presses the clutch down it makes a dreadful sound - grinding/grating noise at around engine speed.

No noise at any other time and it make gear selection impossible......

'Box is now out the car and the release bearing is intact - clutch looks in perfect condiition and the flywheel is on and looks ok...

Place yout bets!!!

The input shaft of the gearbox does have a little end float (2mm maybe) not sure whats normal.

Thanks peeps

Alex

have you setup your clutch cable/pedal etc correctly??
my rst did this when i made up a custom metal quadrant for my clutch pedal because i was pulling the clutch lever too far- i had to trim some off the quadrant before it would engage and not pull my clutch lever too far.
hope you followed as its hard to explain lol- try engaging a gear with less than the pedal completely on the floor maybe- this is how i found out it was the problem on mine.

I recently were asking a simliar thing, my mk3 fiesta had no drive and just grinding sounds, was thinking it was the gearbox, but turns out while draging it up driveway it was the n/s drive shaft, it completly broke in two at the hub side, chewed the bearings and casing to bits, not a pritty site. Only 2 months old. I would check the play in the cv joints.

he said he gets the noise with his foot on the clutch...... ie no drive to the wheels/drive shafts.

Yeah the noise is where stationary - or when driving if you can get it into gear... so its not CVs..
