Default Settle A Pub Argument, Really Stupid Question Inside...

We was all sat in the pub disgussing how cold it was outside. Zero Degrees. A friend said:

'It's so cold, if you slept outside tonight you would die'.

I said you wouldn't, many agreed with me but one or two said you would. I was pretty sure you wouldn't die. Settle, please.

Benni.

I'll assume you'd sleep in whatever you were wearing after passing out from getting pissed at the pub

You mean outside no shelter, but clothes? You'd be cold but probably ok.
Outside naked? You'll freeze to death.

That's the one. I should of said for whatever reason you couldn't get in the house. So you had whatever you went out in. So, a pair of jeans and a hooded top.

I don't think you would die but you would certainly have the onset of hypothermia

Well 0 degrees Celsius is 32 f, body temp is 37 F so you would definitely have the onset of hypothermia.

0 degrees F is -18 C so yes you would be well frozen if it was that cold

Fair chance of hypothermia if you slep out in zero degrees c with just normal pub clothes on

If you had hypothermia for long enough you'd be brown bread.

So for me to say you would just be very cold is wrong then. So there isn't a real answer. Just like all Pub Arguments, heh.

Thanks, Benni.

Better chance you probably wouldn't be able to sleep, but then 0'c is freezing temperature right??????

So you probably wouldn't last long, unless coat, scarf, mittens etc........

I'd say you would be out there for more than 6 hours. Knowing my luck, I'll loose my key tonight.

I know that all too well. I once slept in my car and woke up about three hours in freezing. I was shivering.

benni, theres only one way to find out, its going to be fooking cold tonight.

so go to the pub tonight, get completely wankered, and then mince about for the night outside and report back on here tomoz at 8am if your still alive.

if your not, and dont report back, we can all assume that your mates were right

If that is true about the sleeping,

Then why did I wake up the other week in a caravan after the temperature had completely dropped, fell asleep nicely with the rad on and as soon as it went off and the temp dropped I was wide awake???????

Maybe, but if your sleeping in cold conditions your bound to wake up when you will feel that your body is starting to shake therefore u will stay alive.

......cos u will wake up for a bit....body shock (not that cold)....but when it's COLD u'll just keep sleeping......cos ur body tries to conserve energy/heat.......hibernation.......

Just to confirm that body temperature is 37 degrees C not 37 degrees F.

37 Degrees F would feel like putting ur hand in the fridge when u touched someone....

It could kill ya
if your a 7 stone weakling with just jeans and a hooded top plus T-shirt
you got almost no body fat to insulate you.

But if you managed to find a unlocked shed IE some kind of basic shelter u would just about be ok

Load of tosh..... The human body is an AMAZING piece of kit, and can withstand a hell of a lot of abuse.... Sure bits break and stuff goes wrong, but on the whole it's incredibly durable!

Sleeping outside in the buff with a zero degree temperature would fuck you up, but I doubt highly you would die from it. Of course, that could entirely be dependant on how long you endured such temperatures.... But humans have survived in far worse temperatures than that (probably not naked mind)

The human body can take an almighty battering and isn't as fragile as you think! I was watching SAW 5 last night and one thing that was said is the human body contains on average 10pints of blood but can still work (just) on half that ammount, which I thought was bollocks but apparently (according to my mums mate, who is a biology professor) it's true and you can lose half your blood content and still be alive! (although one page on a Google search suggested you could expire is you lose just 25% of you total blood ammount - but I think thats bollocks as your allowed to give upto 2 pints of blood in a donation, so if you could die from it, they probably wouldn't let you)
