Got a nice fat cheque through from my insurance company this morning for the Integra which was carjacked last month and have decided to get a larger estate type motor until mid next year. Problem i've got it I dont know which one!!!! I only want to spend up to around the 4k mark and put the rest aside for when the right F150 Lightning comes along!! However, a lot of the estates are all 100k mile motors (want a diesel!), should I worry with this mileage these days?
The two in particular i've been looking at are either the Mondy TDCi 130 Zetec S's or an Audi A4 Avant. I actually prefer the look of the Mondy's but worried about reselling in say 6 months time. The mondy below is a 2002 model tdci 130 zetec S up for £3995 with 102k on the clock, the Audi below that is a 94000 miler V plate 1.9tdi se.

Which one would you go for and why?!
Cheers

just sold a 02 02 omega dti estate,1 owner full history 120k miles,6 months tax, nearly new branded tyres, and drove like new for 2k, that makes a mondeo 02 diesel estate look dear, omegas can do huge miles if looked after properly as they are german built and really opels
Hello mate,
Personally I would just get yourself a very cheap <£1000 runabout for a year.
The problem with estates is that you are stumping up £4,000, which you would probably expect to loss one third if not half in a years time.
Alternatively wait and keep hunting for the F150, do you know the guy who has the black one that is always down our street......that makes one hell of a noise!

I am turning Japanese for my next car, I have always been a Ford fan but now that I am pregnant the Escos, Puma and Z-T van just aren't practical. Am a bit stumped on the Ford front as I want something reliable and Turbo'd (normally aspirated just wont do lol) so we are buying a Subaru WRX Estate for practicality and fun. still keeping the others apart from the Puma though

iv'e got an audi a4 same car as in the picture but blue.very nice car to drive and the se is a good spec but if you need the boot space the mondeo is much bigger.i found the a4 does not have as much rear leg room either.very economical and cheap to run.you should be able to get an a4 that year and miles for alot less than 4k.have you thought about an a6?for 4k you should get a nice estate though.
saw a impreza estate last night do £650 quid at auction, it had gold sti v3 alloys, morretts, the silver/black cloth seats and 81k miles,it was a turbo and didn't sell as the owner wanted a grand. thats cheep but not if the clutch or gearbox is fooked.
regards omegas,if you bought a 2 grand good 02 diesel you would probably not lose much if anything on it as they hold money really well the older they get. just try driving one to see, they are rear wheel drive and a cracking tow car or load carrier.
i just wouldn't get a petrol at the mo.

zedtechs - no interest in a cheapy cheap shitter to be honest, i've got an old escort at the moment which i've been smoking about in and its horrible - used to newer / nicer cars if you know what I mean. yeah seen that black F150, parks at the station, i'm in the middle of buying a house so want to get moved in and settled down first before buying a Lightning as i'll be doing less miles (consumption) once im in.
cozzfather, i do like the omegas as it go and your right they are cheap. MIght be worth considering.
I dont really like the scooby estates to be honest and would've thought they would be hard to sell?? Having looked at that Audi again it is actually quite ugly as well!!!!
I may go look at the mondy and try and bid him £3200 or something and see what he says.

i had a 130 zetec s and they go well but suffer problems like check diesel pump as the seals go in them, Duel mass fly wheel, starter motor etc, come to think of it go for an audi at least they dont suffer as bad with rust.
i have a pug 406 estate, and i have to say,its the best "normal" car i have ever owned. I use it to tow my cars to trackdays, does 60mpg on a good run, and its done 160k and drives like new. I hated Pugs till i bought this
If you're toying with the idea of the A4 and you're not a badge snob. why not look for a Octavia estate.
Heres a 2005 TDI with 94K on the clock for 1500 of your hard earned..

I've never had one or been in one, so no idea what they are like, but if you only want one for about a year, gotta be worth a look

If you want something to smoke around in for a year or so cheaply, I personally would avoid the mk3 mondeo diesel - Chances are at that mileage the dual mass flywheel will be on its last legs, expect a 4 figure sum to replace it

How about something like this?

I did that Vectra tiff but it will be a killer on juice for me!!! If it were a diesel i'd be well tempted!!!!
Whats this dual mass flywheel thing? Is it likely to be covered under a warranty?

Highly unlikely to be a warranty thing. Not really too sure how it works, but its some fancy flywheel that commonly go wrong on a lot of newer cars, and cost £££££ to put right!!
Am really liking that that Zetec S, will probably swap my Mondeo for one of those. I would avoid red though, or at least give it a good check over, as the bumpers tend to go 'off colour' and look darker than the rest of the car.
Had an Audi A4 TDI for a year or so. Was an excellent worthy car, and I'm a big fan of German motors, but it was completely devoid of soul.

i knew the previous owner of that car, well the one that did all the mods?

I love my tdi Octavia estate, 110bhp with a remap, does 55-60mpg, big enough for all our crap, went to the Nurburgring in july, just get the badge snobs looking down their noses at you, but fuck 'em!

Out of the ones i've driven the Audi A6 avant was my favourite. They still look reasonable, drive great and are very solid. I really fancy an A6 2.5tdi 180 sport quattro as my next car.
For sheer cheapness and to get a very new car with low mileage and lots of toys i'd recommend the Renault Laguna. The prices they go for are just silly cheap and they are all 5 star ncap rated. I currently have one and its really good, just doesn't have the sporty drive of the Audi or feel as solid.
