For sheer cheapness and to get a very new car with low mileage and lots of toys i'd recommend the Renault Laguna. The prices they go for are just silly cheap and they are all 5 star ncap rated. I currently have one and its really good, just doesn't have the sporty drive of the Audi or feel as solid.
They're cheap for a reason though - Mate had one, and had no end of electrical problems, and the engine eventually ate itself. When he was trying to get the electrical stuff sorted he was turned away from two garages as they "wouldn't touch them"!
