i brought a new dell laptop 5 months ago, any went to turn it on a coulpe of weeks ago, and it wouldnt start windows

tried fafing about with it for ages, and ended up now needing to re install vista....but it didnt come with it on disk...

what do i do now?

 

Call Dell, very good aftercare in my experience with them mate

 

you should have a disk with it to reinstall, if you bought it new mate.
otherwise get hold of a copy and use the serial number printed on the tag attached to the laptop.

yeah, its got the tag on it, but i have every disk other than vista

 

and it's a vista tag, not xp?
what model laptop is it?

finally rebuilt my laptop yesterday after putting up with it being flaky as fuck for 4 or 5 months. it's just such a pain in the arse knowing i'm gonna spend the next few weeks trying to do stuff on it only to discover that i didn't reinstall whatever application it is that i need!

Mark xp with sp1 is not old is it? of course he could find xp drivers for it, vista might find them automatically yeah, but most devices come with xp/vista drivers on cd

 

when i turn the laptop on, the screen is completly blank, with the cursor flashing in the corner, i take it from here i just stick the disc in and vista will re install?

 

when you switch on, you get blue dell logo ??/ at this point hit f12 and choose boot from cd

my sister just gave me her vista recovery disk, my lappy is working again, but am i safe to connect it to the net? or will they think its a copy?
