Just heard it on the news, police have to go on a 2 week training course to learn the 'polish' language, due to the high levels in our communties!

If you want to live here, learn the language. I plan to live in Germany at some point, so I will be learning the language before I go. To come here, or anywhere you should have a grasp of their language. It's a complete joke.

Maybe beause the recent large Polish influx to britain would need the officers to learn a new language?

I'm not sure what other cultures you are reffering to but here in Bolton there has always been a strong indian population (last 20-25 years) so police already speak, hindu or urdu or whatever it is, so now there are more Poles than ever they might need to address them also?

GMP and most if not all police forces use very very expensive interpators (usually two at a time for criminal matters) and you would be amazed how much this costs the tax payer every year .

The real suprise is the amount of British born people who are not anglo saxon , sudenly lose the abilitie to speak and understand english once arrested.

A few on the high horses again. When the poles come in the majority will learn and know the basics etc but will not understand a full convo, so will help matters faster if the police can understand polish.

People saying they will learn a lanuage before they move country is bollox, you know how hard that is, especially ofr an adult ?. I could never learn spanish from a course you have to be over there learning and mixing and talking it.

Thats my views, they learn to over come the difficulties on new poles coming into the country, where a lot will need help and often find police involved etc.

I wouldnt believe everything you hear on the news.. certainly not filtered down to the met.. I think they have bigger things to worry about at the mo... finding a new commissioner for a start.

What if we only had one pole here, would the police ALL have to learn his language ?
This is discrimination, my portuguese mate don't speak english very well but is learning, I think the police should learn it to help him out, as well as spanish/german/brazilian/HINDI/russian etc etc.
It's not like we need them doing more important things like trying to stop people running under trucks and cars.
Does ANY other country learn languages of a MINORITY ?
They know how to get here, a lot(not all) know our system inside out to claim what they are entitled to, in AFRICA they actually teach as a subject how to claim benefits in the uk!!

why hasnt the all meddling EU insisted on teaching a standard common language across the member states so we can all communicate freely?
english being the most commonly used language across borders would be the obvious choice.
