Smile 4x4 diff ratio's

anybody know what diffs to use on a 4x4 cossie to pick up the acceleration
is it just aftermarket crown wheel and pinions
or is there any other diffs that swap in out of something else? i.e xr4x4 etc?

You have to get both the rear diff and the pignion/chain, otherwise you'll break everything.

Use diffs out of a 2.0 xr4x4 as they are 3.9 as opposed to standard 3.6

Got them fitted to mine and transformed the car

Ditto, most definatly worthwhile changing if you can.

but as said above, you will need to change the step offs in the transfer box to alter the front to 3.9 to match the rea diff.

2.0 xr4x4 front diff is a 3.9 Kelv. Not as strong as 3.6 hence why people run standard front diffs with the 3.9 step off

yeah i know Rich, thats why ive only ever changed the rear diff and kept the front standard, 3.9 fronts are weaker than rondells

and the same ratio step off's apply now with the Quaifes and Barra

you either change the rear to a 3.9 and then alter the transfer box ratio's so it makes the front drive as if it were a 3.9.

or

you fit a matching pair of 3.9 diffs, ie the ones from an 2.0 4x4 - but thosefront diff are pretty weak.

the most common practice is to go for the first option.
