Default 'lightweight' Car audio

I'm currently building my mini, the aim for the whole project is that is is to be a fast road/track car that will be cheap (compared to a cossie ) and fun, its not going to be mega fast but should be entertaining the main thing i am trying to keep in mind is that it should be comfy enough to drive to the ring next year and back again.
It will have carpets but no sound deadening so the acoustics aren't going to be great
I've been thinking about audio, i want something that is reasonable quality that will keep me entertained on motorway stints, but not something thats going undo all my work of fitting carbon fibre panels etc.
what would you suggest? a Decent CD player, 2 decent speakers and a small 8" slimline sub and amp? or is the sub a waste?
what small speakers/ cd player combo comes recomended without spending megabucks?

2 good components (5 1/2 in) and a good 2 channel amp set in full mode. Should be enough

Kenwood Dual Mags will be your best bet on the speaker front. Decent components, use reverse technology so the magnet is really small and weighs fook all!!

If you want proper lightweight audio, a pair of Kenwood kfc-psr71p's (17cm components) weigh feck all (it's to do with the magnets). I thought the box was empty when it arrived. They are an old model, so may be discontinued now tho.
