197mph audi S4 info?
I read in the recent redline mag about a audi that had recorded 197 at brunters with only 520bhp, sounded a but high as it only done just over 180 on the day. Anyone got any info on it? Think its owned by amc?

what more info you need? its all in redline, complete feature on the car, all the tech spec etc.
the 197 was done on some supercar top speed day a little before we timed it, i was pretty shocked by it too.

just wondered if it was on gas for the 197 run or different spec, just seems a very big gap between 180 and 197. Was that on proper timing gear could it have been a timing error like the 11.99 rst.

no gas, tho he said he ran a little more boost on that v-max day.
but yeah, i dont wanna point fingers, but im a bit suspicous of the timing gear on that v-max day...

its just you would need at least another 150bhp to go from 180 to 200 maybe more imo, seems too much a difference. BUT still shocked at how good these motors are unopened, they seem to piss 500bhp with just a stage 3 package ie KO4's, remap and RS4 coolers.

You got it!
It will run 500bhp on standard internals too... obviously it has to be mapped for lower torque if you dont upgrade the rods, but it can and has been done.
Take a totally standard S4 and put in a generic chip and you instantly have ~320bhp, 380lb/ft torque! cant wait to get mine done

Happily retired
That speed difference needs a 31% increase in Power. That means if 180 took 520bhp then 197 would require 681bhp,
He was running methanol injection at Vmax.

may be the difference is that on the day of VMAX they had the full 2 mile runway with run off and not 1 & 3/4 miles with No run off at all. My Audi did 176.4 on the day only did 1 run and that was in the WET, LOL had to leave easy...

thought it was over the same distance?, the way it was written seemed to imply he had done 197 in the same conditions as the Redline thrash.
So from Rods calculation it seems that it was impossible as stav says surely can't gain 161bhp from methanol?

hi rod
i have done 178mph in my rs4 avant at v max 3, with only 450bhp at flywheel and 325bhp at wheels believe that was in 2003, i beleive doug did 180mph from standing start at top of runway which is pretty impressive, when the 197mph was reached he started from otherside of brunters so attacked the straight with use of bend so already rolling at 80-90mph,
why dont u orangize a cossie v audi day, i will participate
cheers steve

problem is that at VMAX you just drive up the runway to the timing gate, then brake easy.
But with the redline days the timing gear is on your car. So No markers on the runway, no points on where to start braking. Its very hard to work out how much space you need. I only did the 1 run on the day and got176.4mph started braking way to early.
see map in first pic.
