ah yes, i remember a thread on M5board about that.
I'll give it a whirl.

It doesn't feel like there's any problems but it's worth checking i guess

You will soon, like me, find youself driving around real slow, with micheal Buble pumping out, just enjoying the QUALITY for a change instead of using the power to justify to yourself the shite build quality of the car your in.

I know!!! before i thought that there is ALWAYS a compromise somewhere, i used to own a TT and i used to tell myself that it's ok being shit slow cos it's 'nice'

But there are NO compromises with this car, it's just badass!!

I love going slow in it too, it sounds lovely just burbling away

Sorry people, still no pics

I gave it a quick clean earlier, then drove somewhere not too far away to try to beat the darkness, took out the camera and it was dead...and the spare batteries have been used in the toothbrushes!!!! (the missus got a bollocking!)

My only grumble so far is that i have no cupholders!!!!

I love having a built in phone though, very handy indeed.

You just fit your own sim into the supplied handset, mine is a little motorola flip phone, some still have the original BMW business type phone, but you can get different adapters to fit different phones, although the choice isn't huge.

As for drinking, i have a habit of buying a can of red bull or bottle of juice every time i fill up...and i never wait til i'm stationary again before opening, so a holder would be handy

They arent too offensively priced from BMW. They sit right under the switch panel in teh center console. Are you sure you havent got them? Worth a push on teh panel if it has indents on.

Also, theres a great one available from USA that replaces the storage compartment under the arm rest.

Oh, BM sell rear cup holders too, ive got them all now. 5 of teh fookers.

Been considering one of these though as the Genuine BM ones are flimsy as fook sadly. http://www.ultimatecupholders.com/index.html

Those ones look pretty cool, I've got the traffic master doofa in the front, but you need to upgrade the nav or pay a subscription to use it so i'm told....i'm not too bothered about it though.

I was gonna pick up some BMW ones last night, but like you say it seems they're really flimsy so would probably break

Decisions Decisions

Also thinking of moving the fire extinguisher somewhere else, as it looks odd by the drivers seat imo.

It's a DVD one, the previous owner had just bought the 2008 disk too

I was wondering if i can put a film in there actually, then watch it on the TV ( AV channel ) might try it sometime

I've just found summat else that annoys me ever so slightly ( just to be picky )

At night time the red section of the rev counter is lit up all nice and bright, but if i'm not looking at it directly and just catch a glimpse out of the corner of my eye i keep thinking there's a warning light on.

managed to hit the limiter last night too, felt like it'd do much more

Nice colour and interior choice, really like it. Just sold my R32 and seriously considering one of these as the big cruiser side is very appealing having 3 kids. Out of intrest whats the back seat like? Is it meant for two people or is the middle okayish for another body? I keep reading about the VANOS failing and been super expensive, whats the deal on this?
Again, big thumbs up for a top looking motor

thanks

I turned the DSC off and sport mode on, when the revs hit 5500 or thereabouts it was missfire city, the same on both runs they tried...then on the dash display it had a message saying 'tyre sensors inactive' or summat similar (possibly implying wheel sensors?), also the dsc light stayed on permanently along with the 'check brake' lights until i drove the car a few hundred yards..so must have been a sensor problem causing it, i'm sure it can be disabled somehow.

here's the graph, it's a little hard to read, max torque was 363lb/ft so pretty much spot on, nice and flat too

StephenC-The rear is absolutely fine for 3 people, vanos issues seem to have been rectified on 2001-on cars, but it's a worry, mine has no rattles at any time, but the units are slightly noisy in operation i suppose...a common thing it seems with all BMW vanos units.

Good to see you and the car today Martin. The cars a lovely example and even got most of the ford boys nodding with appreciation!

I did laugh when the RR operator kept asking if it was a 530 until he opened the bonnet.

I know I won't regret it - I absolutely LOVED my E39 530d Sport, but it would of been sacralige putting a towbar on that and throwing bits of engine in the boot - hence chopping it in for an L200 Warrior

I'd absolutely love one. I wish I'd known they were this cheap when my old man got his E60 5 series. Would've badgered him to get one. Might have tempted him as he has always liked BMs but wouldn't have fancied the fuel and tax on it.

I'm seriously tempted by them as a future car but I always ask myself whether everyone would think I've borrowed daddy's car and looking like an old man myself But fuck that. Amazing piece of engineering that looks just right with enough subtlety but sporty credentials too and V8 soundtrack plus fully loaded. Got to be the ultimate driving machine. Can't think of any other car which offers that much comfort and that much performance for the money. In fact, pretty hard to beat them at all nowadays. Apart from possibly the new E60 M5 or M6.

High Mileages : On the www.m5board there's about 50 owners with over 200k on the cars with no major engine work from new. So more about condition and service history than mileage.

Stunning cars offering the best of both worlds. (Performance and Luxory).

In my opinion, the best performance saloon you can ever get for the money.

I will return.......................LOL.

Look at that torque curve. Over 200ftlb where many cars are still idling. LOL

That makes more torque RIGHT on idle than my car does at peak which is 5611rpm

Mine only makes 140ft.lbs. That looks more like 150 and shoots up massively over the space of 1000rpm too

Awesome ain't it

I'm 99.99% sure with the extra revs she'd have also made bang on the 400bhp mark that she should do

Gary_ST - High mileage is no worry providing the car has been properly serviced and maintained, the majority of these cars will only have 100k miles due to cruising up and down motorways all day long, my own car has 80k and i'm not exaggerating when i say it feels like a brand new car still, no rattles, bumps, knocks or anything to speak of...everything works and i'm convinced that even ones with 150k+ will still feel tight.

EDIT - I've also just found out that pulling fuses 17 and 30 out will allow the car to run properly....too late now but will help any1 else in future if they bother doing it.
