Fair comment, I guess i must concede that they do sound a little better than the M5 somehow (On standard pipes of course) But for me, thats it, it ends there, and i have a severe hatred of Autos that taints any opinion of the car they are bolted to if i am going to be totally honest. Maybe there is a manual AMG? Ive certainly never had one in here...

I think the E39 m5 is looking very dated. Where as an EVO 6 is like a timewarp car, can never get bored of it.
Not many old men in e39 m5's anymore. I onyl ever seen mid twenties types. Cracking car for the money. Does it need to be a 5 series. Why not the E46 M3? which looks sharper.

I think i'll try an M5 one day, i thought about it before the Evo8 but i like the club and forum involvements of Fords and Mitsi, i dont think im the type to fraternise with BMW people.

I have one at 25 and dont get many problems with image although your neighbours might get jealous and ignore you.
You wont miss turbos either when you get back in them after one of these they seem a bit gutless no matter what boost its at-and bloody hard work.

Been in a few E39 M5's, there awesome.
Giving the choice though, i'd rather have the RS6, yes i know there a bit more money etc. I had a little go in a RS6 and it just felt awesome.

this carl tool should keep his many opinions to himself until he buys a comparable car instead of his daddys, i dont give a fuck if he likes/dislikes e39 m5,s ,but imo he makes a cunt of himself by bumming up a car he doesnt own , thought this for ages but said nowt, CARL SSHHHHH.

Common fault is the MAF sensors - these fail and you loose a lot of power and torque untill they are put right again - since they are service items at the end of the day there is no reason why they shouldn't be changed at every major service
I loved my E39 D Sport - would love an M5, but the fuel bill would cripple and then castrate my wallet

i can't help but think this will defo be my new car, so i'm gonna have to live with looking daft!!
i look a bit older than i am most of the time anyway
I just love the thought of having luxury and performance in one car, i've never had it before, it's always been a compromise.
I want as many options as possible, but even standard spec has an amzing amount of equipment
can't wait now, unless Missus gets her way and i end up in a mondeo and put some cash into savings

as stu@mdevelopments said, not rapid but still fast, this is another reason i prefer the AMG feels quicker and love the way T.C. has to keep kicking in (yes im shit scared of it and only drove it with T.C. on) if it was mine, that would be a different story!

i had one they are lovley cars, as for people saying they are slow thats crap they dont have the push in the back that a turbo car with that power has but much more fun to drive with the traction control off and all that grunt and luxury i only sold mine as i was commutting to oxford from kent 3/4 times a week and it was costing a bomb but if driven sensible are not to bad on fuel but im 33 and used mine for school runs as well, let the kids watch the tv on the way, i wouldnt mind buying another as they are coming down in price now.

Did the TC light keep coming on by any chance?
Ideally, when you test drive, you MUST turn it off as it is VERY intelligent and saps power depending on steering angle as well as throttle and wheel traction.
E.G. Sit at a junction to trun right, half a turn of lock and plant it to the carpet to slide out with a wide tail. You will get around 150bhp. The throttle will slowly dial back in under ecu control as you release the lock and the revs climb. it is actually amazingly good.

Drive in 2nd. 2500rpm. Nail it. Should pull quite progressively to 4k, then pull harder round to the limiter.
Drive in 2nd. 4000rpm. Nail it. Should shove you back in your seat like a turbocharged car and pull progressively to the limiter.
