Default sierra 4x4 problem

Hi there, here is my problem

Ive got a 4x4 saph and i broke the drivers side front drive shaft a few years ago and sent it to a friend of a friend who took out the broken shaft and towed the car back to his workshop to be sorted as i know nothing about fixing cars, well i got it back and he had put the new shaft in but ever since i got it back from him its not been as it should.

If i go round a left hand corner it makes a wierd noise like a dud, dud, dud banging sound and feels like it comes from the back and dose not feel safe atall, ive changed all the drive shafts front and rear and changed the rear diff but still i have this problem.

i would just like to add it acts like this if you are excelirating into the corner and even it your coasting it round the corner

it works as it should when turning a right hand bend and you cant feel anything wrong if your going in a strait line.

anyone had/seen this problem before?ifso can you tell me how to solve it.

Thanks in advance for your help

we have given the engine a good shuv about and it seem sturdy and mounts look fine, would mounts cause it to just do it on the side the mount has gone? as it only does it on a left hand bend.

quite often, the reason a driveshaft breaks is because of worn engine mounts, and it can lead to vibration,if the mounts are ok,check the rear diff.
it only takes 15mins to get the cover off and check the gears still have all the teeth intact.

also check the front prop and exhaust arn't hitting the chassis as they gets very close, years ago this cost me a new shaft before I sussed it was the exhaust hitting the chassis when it flexed..doh!

ive put in a new rear diff and changed all 4 driveshafts, i do have to add that this problem was not caused by the drive shaft poping out, the guy that i sent it to to fix it fixed it then drove it around for about a week and let all his friends drive it, he had it for the week and told me he hadnt fixed it as he was waiting for the shaft.

i dont know what they did to it but ive been trying to sort this problem for a few years now.

ive got new rear koni shocks to go on yet and new springs all round plus all new poly bushes, i would just love to get it back how it was before he got his hands on it

sounds like your m8 has fitted an xr4x4 drive shaft the centre part is about 20mm longer. when you go round a corner the driveshaft will be compressing & locking up in the inner cv joint.

my track car was doing this until I changed both front shafts for cossie ones, it did sound like it was coming from the centr of the car not the front..

Ive changed front shaft again and still the problem is there, the car seems to be siting lower on the drivers side than the pas side and also the wheel rubs on the drivers side and not the pas side.

the shafts do not look as though they are sat in the same position on both sides, drivers side has more of a bend at the cv joint could this be the shock failing and causing the noise?

i need to get this sorted asap and any help would be great, are there any pf users that know there stuff with 4x4 cosworths in oxfordshire that would be willing to come and take a look for me?

either a broken spring or a cracked top spring cup then. common on the 4x4 cos for the spring cup to rust around the securing nut & break away causing the suspension to drop & some interesting handling!

just put new springs on and shocks look fine but its defo siting lower on the drivers side, i will take the front shocks off the escos and try them on the sierra and if it solves the problem i will buy some new 1's
