Iv been thinking about this for a while and wondered if anyone had actually ever done it? I am seriously considering something like this for my next project.
As stupid as it might seem i would fancy doing a twin engined front wheel drive version![Big Grin](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_mrgreen.gif)
My thought was you could mount two yamaha R1 engines in the front relativly easy by building a frame inside the engine bay and utilising the original engine mounts to bolt the frame to.
you could then mount the engines, chains, sprockets and diff inside this frame to marry up with the original driveshaft positions and then have some custom driveshafts made to fitt the new diff and original hubs.
My idea would be to keep as much of the orginal equiptment as possible to try and keep things as simple as possible.
There is obviously alot more to it than that but you get the idea.
Good idea or bad?

Would have no torque, weigh too much and be slow.
IMO of course.

very low torque, bike engines aren't all they're cracked up to be, i know a lot of peoplw with kit car type locosts etc that race them and are going back to car engines again, as the torque is just to low for the weight of them at only 500kg, so the added weight of an escort would prob be more hassle than it be worth, on the other hand it would be quite cool to see and as long as you can keep the engines balanced perfectly and screaming it would go well, just my opinion mate

I would like to do somthing a little diffrent fom the norm on my next future project.
What about a ferrari powered escort? That would blow a few minds i recon!

problem with bike engines is theyre not very powerful, youre relying on low weight to pull you along. not sucha big deal ina light kit car, but in a full sized car they'l; struggle to pull it along ![Sad](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif)
i seen a hyabusa engine'd kit car and it wasnt very quick at all
seen an R1 engine's mk1 escort and that was proper slow!

Personally I think the idea has potential, I mean with 2 R1 engines(even early ones have 150bhp) there will be plenty of power there, and also the sequential dog boxes they have a standard would be great in a car. Then there is the possibility of turboing, can you imagine 2 150bhp engines feeding a GT30-35, and revving out to 12000rpm......

Here is a little project i'm working on at the moment with sis in laws boyfriend.
Considering that the original car weighed 826kg and was happy enough with a 50 bhp 1256cc engine i'm sure it will go well enough with 600kg and the new engine.
R1 turbo engine making 230-250 bhp, 130 ft/lb torque. Has the added bonus of a six speed sequential box.

I am Scottish yes, been out here for 2.5 years now and Sydney for a year before that. I would move back to OZ in a minute and will be back there as soon as I can.
New Zealand is better than UK in my opinion overall but it's not ALL better, bit of a backwards place in many respects.......![Wall](https://passionford.com/forum/images/smilies/wall.gif)
I advise everyone I speak to about moving to come see it first, and make sure they see Oz too. Kiwis are leaving to Aussie at a rate greater than the population is increasing here, there is a reason. Only real downside to Aussie is house pricing, but that depends where you want to live too......
