you can if you want just buy a mod chip www.modchipstore.com
Or you can buy a network adapter, hard disk, and hd advance CD this allows you to copy all your 'backup' games to a hard disk so you dont have to load them up each time.. no mod chip is required for this and the disc is available from the above link..

P.s ive got the hard disk and its great!

u buy a network card for ps2, buy a maxtor 120gig and an ORIGINAL copy of hdloader (if u can find it because its been taken off market by sony )
when the hdloader boots up, it shows the hard drive and u can copy original games straight to the hard drive and the disk is not needed anymore
plus loading times are quadrupled, maybe more.
will keep you all posted when it arrives

with that, you still need the network card.
not personally going to use hdadvance because its just a rip-off of the original hdloader.
also i would get the stuff from this country i think, how many bad sectors with it coming from the states?

just bear in mind, if you are copying a disk to the HDD it needs to be in VGC as slightest scratches can cause freezing games etc

Basically, you can go and rent a game, then store it on your hard drive and take it back
I don't however condone this sort of behaviour because it's very naughty

Both HD advance and HD loader use a Max HD size of 120GB
With HD advance you can copy back-up games no problem (ie those downloaded or just coppied from retail DVD's)
With HD loader you cant add coppied games unless your PS is chipped (kinda defeats the object of having the HD in the fist place!
Ive had mine a coupple of minths now and its great!

yes its worth it, u can store approx 40 games on.
loading times are roughly 1/4 to 1/3 of original as well
just a shame u cant sell the originals once backed up to hard drive as you would make your money back and then some

Testing the future
bttt for advice as santay brought me a ps2 for christmas
i got the new slim ps2 with built in network adaptor.
what i don't understand is how this connects to a hard drive? do you have to have a special hard drive with built in network card, or can you get a network adaptor to work with any hdd?

cheers gareth. so where does this hdd live? does it have to be in a pc that is connected to the ps2 via network, or can it just sit there somehow getting power from the ps2 and communicating over a network adaptor?
