lots of posts now so this is my take on it

find an M3 with a blown engine and bolt it up into it
job jobbed and less of a need to flog the other motor

that way you can break the broken m3 to fund the cost of the replacement

yes?
no?

Not often you see an M3 with a broken engine for sale, plus thats loads of hassle and probably wouldnt actually save much.

have looked at this dojj but like chip said, finding a m3 with blown engine is rare, or even just a yellow shell

Figure i'm thinking is 6K. there are quite a few cars that look good for around the 4.5k-5.5k mark but most will probably need about a grand spending on them.

As said earlier, the easy way to do it IMHO is you have the wreck, as you bent it you bought it, got to be 3-4k in breaking that, engine, box, wheels, diff etc will get you close, get a loan for a new M3 for Jimbo, as selling the RST will take a while and may not release all the ŁŁŁ you want. Hopefully then you will only have a couple of grand MAX to pay off , you may even break even if you are lucky!!

is it not just a matter of finding a nice one for around the 4.5k mark like said then bolting on your goodies?

Id have thought that is all that is involved too.

But effectively that is still costing more money of course, as less goodies to sell off the dead one.

i should hope so, the exhaust is almost a GRAND to replace on its own

its just silly things like having crap tyres or needing servicing etc. that seem to hold up the cheap cars none of it is any drama but those little bits can often add up

also anyone know if ill have any trouble taking the numbr plate off the old one? what if the DVLA want to inspect the car etc.?

if i can buy the car with the money mainley sourced from mine then im not really too bothered about the crashed m3, just want to get him mobile again and have him happy with what he gets

Sad to see Jim and to Paul for doing the right thing with trying to get Jim back on the road.

Not much I can say really, but good luck to both of you sorting things

Congrats on TOTALLY missing the point.

He could NOT have sold it his for 6K, but thats what its going to cost to replace.

What jim needs to not be out of pocket is:
Good condition M3
Full Milltek exhaust
Sorted suspension
Decent tyres

So thats going to be 4500 or so to buy the car, then the other 1500 to get it up to the standard of his old one.

Although if his old tyres are still useable and his old exhaust is still ok, im sure they can just be transferred over, so I dont think it will need to cost paul 6K, should just be more or less 4500-5000 plus a bit of labour swapping bits over.

Then hopefully he will still see at least 1500 quid back off the dead M3 in terms of the engine/box/interior

So about 3500 quid or so in actual money I reckon that Paul will lose.

exhaust etc sounded fine when started up afterwards, brakes should be fine and 3 tyres are fine but i can replace the front one to be safe and hopefuly the new one will come with suspension

I was thinking the same thing Rich . Infact i thought a few weeks ago when i saw posts saying "thanks to jim for lending us his m3 on track" that jims M3 had become the PF track rental car and it would only be a matter of time before it ended up in disaster and maybe not Jim driving it when it happened.

Gutted to see your car like that Jim , but alteast Paul is doing the best he can to replace it for you

Dont think i would let anyone else drive my car on track, no matter what car or who it is. I just wouldnt want the hassle if something went wrong, least if does when im driving im the only one to blame.

Hope you get it all sorted Jim and in a new car soon

Andy / Richpon

Agreed, I even said to Paul down southend on weds that he should only drive jim's car if he was prepared to replace it, and thats why I was nagging jim and rich for us all to buy a cheap track tool for ad hoc track sessions instead of keep using Jim's one.

whats stopping you from getting the bent one straightend out and put back on the road for just this reason?

surely it won't cost you that much to put right and you can strip it out for the proper racer look

That sounds like a plan

Will have a word with Jim and Rich about it, although I think both of them are a bit busy spending elsehwere at the moment, so no rush.

FAR easier to just buy a 600 quid E36 and chuck the engine in it than to repair that, look at the fucking state of it!

when it hit the front pass quarter it then clipped the rear both sides somehow when we span so alot of work involved and its not fair foe jim to have a crash repaired car
