Default GT35 Turbo?

Do these come with an internal wastegate or just external?
Thanks Spadge...

Mike,

Is the GT30 a "drop in" replacement for a T4?

If not, what alternatives are there to the T4 for someone (not me lol) seeking 550-580 BHP.....but with the minimum installation fuss ????

Yes, GT30 is "drop-in" (as long as you don't mind "dropping in" an external waste-gate and suitable manifold ). Avoid the internal waste-gated GT30s, as they are the usual cobbled together mismatches not made by Garrett . Garrett REALLY knew what they were doing with the GT30 and GT35 turbos, and they are perfect matches .

Mike, I suppose if a person is going that far, he may as well "drop in" an R & B plenium, 4 x 1000 cc injectors and go the whole hog with a GT35 ??????

Daz, I'm beside myself

So a GT30 with internal wastegate is no good then?
Who is the best supplier for these turbo's please?

IMO, if you all ready have 500bhp, you might as well bolt on the 35 etc and have 600bhp rather than 550bhp....

Although I advise using 4 x 1000cc injectors.

Spadge, it's really not as much extra work/cost as people think to have an external wastegate put on. Get Mr Hadland to modify a 2wd manifold, job done 600+ bhp and no worries about it cracking like the 'bling bling' ones!!

Internal wastegates suck for big bhp!!!

So what ball park costs are we talking then to convert to a GT35 with manifold modifying (just parts inclu. turbo)..... not that I want to change of course!

Anyone want a recently service exchanged T4 hybrid!!!

Martin charges £225 to modify the intermediate manifold
External wastegate is roughly £400
Modifications to your exhaust system for wastegate roughly £50
Inlet / outlet hose roughly £100
GT-35 turbo roughly £1300
Cam change (dependant on engine spec) £500
Live map roughly £500

So roughly £3075

Oh also head work if it's not upto flowing more air, gee this is cheap

IMHO id not want a GT30 over 500bhp as thats really ragging the tits off it, and your into the mega heated air and big backpressure scenario that makes cars not as reliable as they could be.

Internal wastegated ones are ghey too, like Mike said, not a Garrett option, just a "tuner" option and usually cobbled together from bits of old T4s...

There ARE one turbo manufacturer that makes HUGE turbos (like really silly big if need be) that still have the option of integral wastegates....

HOLSET

http://www.holset.co.uk

They have VERY trick technology in their turbos, go have a look yourself.

I know HX50s and so on are quite popular in Norway etc as alternatives to GT40s etc on 600+bhp cars.

The website is a bit confusing tho as its obviously intended for Diesel application users so the power figures are far far lower than what theyd really be, and it says stuff like "intended for 10 to 14 litre engines" and shit

I think youl need to have a good idea on what sizes will suit if you use one. Maybe their tech dept can help you, they fookin confused the hell outa me when i contacted em

Anyway, id still rather go external wastegate with one of Martins adapted manifolds.

Spadge, I don't think you would like the power delivery of a GT35 coming from a high comp point and squirt rally engine. GT35 is a modern tech thingy but its still a BIG Turbo. I LOVE mine though

Please don't forget that the GT range of turbos is like the T3/4 ones - as in it comes with various turbines which make a significant difference in power and suitability to your requirements....

No idea and a bored out 0.63 a/r housing that looked "like it wouldn't survive a dyno session, let alone in the car", so someone informed me... .

Not that popular no... In Sweden mostly.. In Norway i think there are more people running Turbonetics than Holsets..

People mention GT30s but you might wanna read this and reconsider...

http://www.atpturbo.com/Merchant2/me...egory_Code=GRT

1000rpm sooner than a GT30 on small capacity 4cyls...

Ive gone down the Turbonetics route myself

From the flow maps the GT3071R doesn't look as if it would make the same power as a GT30R but would be much more responsive.

But then i know nothin about turbo's (etc, etc, etc) as the GT35R (with 1.06 ex' housing) and 1000cc injectors I bought aren't big enough for what I now want.
