Welded diffs are fine once you are moving along, they are a bit of PITA at low speeds though.
Thing is though, the will exagerate a lack of front end grip, and most 340's have fucked racks and knackered bushes and really poor front end grip, so the rear gets even more say in where the front goes, if you weld up an MX5 though by comparison it drives surprisingly well still even at really low speeds.
So its as much cause the car is shit as cuse of the welder IMHO

ive had 2x Volvo 300 series with welders, and 3 other cars with them too, as well as driving god knows how many other peoples with them.
they fine, only ever notice them sub 5mph when turning tight corners, aside from that sort of speed a "proper" (ie not some shite standard viscous etc) diff feels the same.
id say your just a bit gay
DEFFO wouldnt say 340s/360s are any worse with them than any other cars either.

I've drive the same car with 7 welded diff's in !! Lot's of people on here have been out in my car wit the welded in & as Stav/Chip say slow speeds you do feel the tyres scrubbin, but thats to be expected your'll also hear any play you have in the CWP, shafts, prop, diff mounts etc as the car scrubs.
As for the steerin, I can't really comment, I've not got PAS on mine & when parkin etc it's as heavy as fook anyways !! Didn't notice any major difference when fitted the welder in over the plated & standard items I had before !!

Its gonna screach and step out under cornering. Both wheels arent supposed to be turning at the same rate. Why did you weld it? These things are easy enough to get sideways as standard.
I suppose its a trade off between being proper mad funny and a proper pain in the rear.

that stepping out thing is rubbish really, if anything they inrease understeer, just means once you make it oversteer they can be kept like it, wheras a gay open diff naturally pulls you back in.
Get the back end out of a sec and hold sideways are 2 different things.
One you can do with an open diff, one you cant.

They're meant for middle aged fathers to ferry the family about in - the very characteristic you mention above is supposed to be a good thing.
Volvo didn't make the cars with hooligans in mind.

Welded diff is fun when wet, but in parkingareas, roundabouts and snow they are utter shit. Had some close calls when just cruising along with 3cm snow. Front just plowed straight on, little tap on the gas, tail stepped out like no tomorrow. It's an on or of thing with the poweroutput I've got

First one I ever had for pissing about going sideways, the bellhousing itself blew to pieces, apparently quite a common issue on them, as I know a couple of other people who have had the same, lol
So much for volvo build quality, same as with the steering issues, lol

340s props destroy themselves as they shite (and why people should just use a 360), but not bellhousings? cant think why the bellhousing would do?
