Default Front diff stuck to sump

Have found that the diff does not want to come away from the sump

The diff still has part of the drive shalf attached, do you think that if l can get the end of the drive shalf out then the diff might come away from the sump

Also it a R&D diff but im sure that make no diffrence because it just pushed on when l fitted it a year or so ago

Also the sump is not attached to the block either now

So any tips would be welcomed

Cheers

Hard to say without looking, but given that the sump is worth not a lot, and the diff is worth lots, my approach would be that if came to trying to force anything to get it apart, id chop the sump up instead of levering on the diff etc.

Yeah ok mate.

Im sure Deano will find a way to get it apart though if its up at Marks?

But like I said, bottom line is if it really doesnt want to come, just chop the sump up and get another one rather than risk the diff.

the shaft is held in by a circlip, you need to take the bottom plate off the diff and spin the shaft and pop the circlip out

once all the 3 bolts are out i think you have to take passenger engine mount off and let the engine lean down as the diff wont come out with the cradle in teh way

then its just a job of lever bars and hammers lol

twist it up and down to break the seal
there should only be a small o-ring inside to stop the engine oil from escaping, other than that, it's just going to be a case of persevering

are you sure you aren't treating it with kid gloves because you don't want to damage it?

i can't remember as it's been a while, but you should be able to see the inside of the diff from within the sump, a plastic mallet might be ll that's needed to crack the seal

otherwise, if you need to get it off in a hurry, cut the sump away and then just crack the outer cover where it goes around the diff to release the suction

of course, this is always a problem if peole don't use the correct o-ring and just whack a load of fords sump sealer into the gap, it sets like rock and you need to chisel it off
