"His passion for Victorian engineering caused the breakdown of his first marriage, and in recent years clashed with his neighbours for attempting to build a mineshaft in the back garden of his home in Bolton"
A fooking mineshaft in ya garden, beats a pond i spose

A sad day indeed. I had mases of respect for Fred Dibnah, from the years we learned about him at Tech. I was truly gutted and quite upset when i heard the news A true, down to earth, take me as ya like me bloke, and the finest steeplejack the country has seen
RIP Fred.

Remember watching the programme where he was digging the mine with the help of his mates. Made all his own tools, built all the machinery, dug the shafts.....
But was totally fooked when it was his turn to make the coffee

NOOOO! One of my heros! I loved watching his programs, and always watch them repeated on Sky everyweek day before work.
I remember watching them at my nans house when they were first on in the early 80s and have loved them ever since
"Did yer like that?"
R.I.P.

I only heard later this afternoon, but he was a top bloke. He stopped me on the high street for directions one night. But what was great i saw him at a steamfair a year or so later n he recognised me, and we spoke odd times there after...
Propa down 2 earth bloke and will be dearly missed.

I used to love watching his programmes - he was such a great character and had tons of charisma. Great catch phrase too jsut after he nukes a huge chimney that he's got ablaze with a ton of old tyres and planks of wood - ' did ya like that?! ' Class.
